Four Wildcats Continue Quest for Spot on Team Manitoba

 

Four Westman Wildcat Midget Female hockey players have advanced on to the next round of try outs for Team Manitoba U18 female hockey team.

Brittany Phillips from Lauder, Amy Lee from Brandon, Sarah Williams from Souris and Brandi Pollock from Virden are four of the 26 remaining girls vying for one of the 20 spots on team Manitoba to be able to play in the U18 Canadian Nationals in Nappanee ON in November.

These four athletes will attend the final camp from August 15-17th in Dauphin where the final roster will be selected. The team will play in the University of Manitoba Bison's Fall Classic as a warm up tournament before the Nationals.

                   Phillips Invited To U-18 Selection Camp

 

 Lauder product Brittany Phillips has moved one step closer to cracking Canada's under-18 women's hockey team.
 Phillips, who spent the 2007-08 campaign with the Westman Wildcats Midget team, is among the 42 players and six Manitobans invited to next week's National Team selection camp in Calgary.

Players attending the camp are eligible to represent Canada at the 2009 IIHF World Women's Under-18 Championship from January 5th to 10th, 2009 in Füssen, Germany.
 The camp gets underway Friday, July 18th and wraps up July 27th

Westman Wildcat Camp Set For August 8-10

 

The Westman Wildcats tryout camp has been set for August 8th-10th in Brandon. The camp will open Friday night with a player/parent meeting and will be followed by an on ice session. Saturday will have two on ice sessions. Sunday will have the final ice time with the naming of the 2008-2009 Westman Wildcat team.

The on ice session will be composed of drills and intra squad games. The players will be evaluated by independent selectors. The team will be announced Sunday following the final ice session.

All 1993-92-91 female players registered in the Westman region last season have been sent the initial letter announcing date and times of the camp. A second letter will be sent out in July reminding all players along with further registration information.

The Westman Wildcat season begins September 2nd. Through the month of September the team will be doing dry land twice a week and have one on ice session per week. The team will have a weekend retreat September 11th-14th. Starting in October the program will skate three times a week.

Pollock and Minshull Two Former Wildcats Commit To Colleges

 

 

Two former Westman Wildcat  Female hockey players have been announced by their respective colleges that they were recruited by.

Kristi-Lyn Pollock of Virden has signed with the Colgate Raiders in Hamilton, New York. Colgate is a NCAA DI school that plays in the ECAC league

Pollock has played the last two years for Balmoral Hall in Winnipeg where she was an assistant captain. She was also a two time member of Team Manitoba U18 winning silver at the Canada Games in Whitehorse as well as a bronze medal at the U18 National Championships in Kitchener last November.

Prior to playing with Balmoral Hall Pollock played two seasons with the Westman Wildcats.

Nellie Minshull of Pierson has signed with the University of Manitoba Bisons that compete in Canada West of the CIS.

Minshull also played the last two years for Balmoral Hall and was a two time member of Team Manitoba winning two medals at Whitehorse and Kitchener. Prior to Balmoral Hall Minshull played for the Pierson Female Midget team while APing to the Westman Wildcats.

Pollock and Minshull both will graduate this month and head out to their respective programs in late August to start their college careers this fall.

5 Westman Wildcats Named To Team Manitoba's Top 40

 

Five players off the Westman Wildcats  Female Midget Hockey Team have moved on in tryouts to this Junes Top 40 in Brandon for Team Manitoba.

136 of Manitoba's top female bantam and Midget aged players attended the POE camp in Winnipeg in late April vying for the opportunity to play for Team Manitoba this November in Canada's National U18 Championships in Napanee Ontario. Hockey Manitoba has selected 40 of these athletes to move on to the next camp in Brandon June 20-22.

Team Manitoba have selected 24 forwards, 12 defence and 4 goalies to compete at Brandon .

The Westman Wildcats have 5 players that have moved on to this point.

On forward, two members of last years Bronze medal winning Team Manitoba U18 team, Brittany Phillips and Amy Lee will be joined by Jenna Marie Durnin.

Phillips, from Lauder, has just returned from Team Canada U18 camp will be expected to be a leader on this years squad.

Lee, from Brandon, will be working hard to move up the depth chart and use her experience from last years team to help this years team.

Durnin, from Wawanesa, is hoping to be one of the 15 forwards moving on to the next camp.

Sarah Williams will join Brandi Pollock from last years team Manitoba, on defence.

Pollock, from Virden, will be trying to solidify a spot on the backend of this squad.

Williams, from Souris, is making her first run at Top 40 and is in good position to be a top 8 defenseman moving on to the next camp.

Following the Top 40 camp in Brandon, 26 of these players will move on to a camp in Dauphin from August 15-17 before the final team of 20 is announced.

Westman Wildcats 2008-2009 Season Starting to Unfold

 

The Westman Wildcats 2008-2009 Season is starting to unfold. The schedule is starting to come together and this year plans to be another great opportunity for the ladies in the program .

Westman's tryout camp is being finalized with the camp schedule for early August in Brandon.

An athletic trainer will work with the team through the month of September for dry land training as well as one ice sessions begin in September in Brandon.

The team will have a weekend training camp at Buffalo Point in conjunction with Balmoral Hall in early September as well as Two weekend exhibition series.

The program will than shift full time back to their host center of Hartney for three practices a week in October.

October will see the program compete at the Little Caesars Tournament in Detroit as well as hosting Westman's own  tournament.

November and December will have the program competing in St Paul in the Minnesota Thoroughbreds Thanksgiving Invitational, at Wilcox at the Notre Dame Hounds Showcase and in Calgary at the Annual Mac's Midget International Tournament.

The rest of the schedule is still being tinkered with. Shattuck St. Mary's and the Saskatoon Comets Showcase will anchor some of the schedule that will complete the season.

Try out information will be made available as soon as dates and times are confirmed with all registration information being included.

Westman Wildcats Brittany Phillips Named to Hockey Canada's U18 National Female Camp

 

The Westman Wildcats are extremely proud to announce that Brittany Phillips has been named to Hockey Canada's National U18 Female Camp at the end of May.

Brittany, from Lauder, MB is a grade 11 student at Hartney High school and a member of the Westman Wildcats Female hockey team.

Brittany was a member of Manitoba's Bronze medal U18 team at Kitchener last November at Hockey Canada's U18 National Championships.

 

Hockey Canada's National Women's Team head coach/general manager Melody Davidson announced on Friday that 47 of the country's top under-18 women's players will converge on Calgary from May 22-25, 2008 for a strength, conditioning and skating camp.

Players invited to this strength and conditioning/skating camp were selected by Melody Davidson and Hockey Canada's regional scouts in cooperation with club teams and Hockey Canada's 13 member branches.

Hockey Canada will also use the camp as an opportunity to get to know the players and give them off-ice training techniques, as well as proper nutritional guidance. Using the 2007-08 on-ice evaluation, performance at this camp and, for the goaltenders, their performance at a June goaltenders' camp, Hockey Canada officials will make their selections for a July under-18 camp, which will lead to selections for the National Women's Under-18 Team for the 2008-09 season.

Westman Wildcats Try Out Camp Aug 8th-10th
 
The Westman Wildcats will hold their 2008-2009 try out camp at the Sportsplex in Brandon on August 8th-10th.

 

This camp is open to any female hockey player born in 1991-1992-1993 that is playing or living in the Westman region.

 

The camp will begin Friday, August 8th in the evening an on ice session. Saturday will continue with two on ice sessions and conclude with a Sunday scrimmage and an announcement of the 2008-2009 Westman Wildcat team.

 

The season will begin on September 2nd with dry land training, classroom whiteboard instruction and on ice for the month of September with 3 a week on ice practices beginning in October.

 

The program has tentatively set its tournament schedule with the major tournament being; Little Caesars in Detroit, Minnesota Thoroughbreds in St. Paul, Notre Dame Hounds in Wilcox, Mac's in Calgary, The Comets in Saskatoon, Our own Wildcats in Hartney as well as the Shattuck St. Mary's Series in Faribault.

 

Letters will be sent out to all players registered in the Westman region for dates, times and registration process. As well updated information will be found on this website.
