Wildcats Sweep Yellowhead and Pembina Valley



The Westman Wildcats Female Midget  team swept an exhibition series with host Yellowhead Chiefs and the Pembina Valley Hawks on the weekend.


The Wildcats first action was against the host Yellowhead Chiefs. The Cats came out quickly and scored three first period goals without giving one up to go into the break 3-0.


In the second the Westman squad cranked up the offense potting 5 more while allowing Yellowhead their only marker of the game.


The third period saw the Wildcats score the only goal of the period to take the win 9-1.


The Cats fired 47 shots at the Yellowhead net while the goaltending dual of Kim Jory and Lacey Adams stopped 25 shots fired their way.


The Wildcats had their scoring spread around with 8 different players finding the back of the net.


The Cats next action had them facing off against the Pembina Valley Hawks.


The wildcats scored the only two goals of the first while applying enormous pressure on the Hawks goalie peppering her with 28 first period shots.


The Westman team found the back of the net 3 times in the second while giving up a marker to the Hawks, for a second period break of 5-1 Cats.


In the third the wildcats outscored their opponent 2-1 to have a final score of 7-2. . Brit Philips led the Wildcats in scoring this game getting the hat trick.


The Cats out shot the Hawks 57-19 in the game and took 6 of the 11 minors called.

Wildcats to Play Series in Yellowhead

The Westman Wildcats will play a two game Series with Yellowhead and Pembina Valley this weekend.
Hamiota will host these three regional teams in a round robin series.
Westmans first action is against their northern rivals, Yellowhead at 10:00 Saturday. The Cats will than face off against Pembina Valley at 12:30.

Cats Capture Bronze At Provincials

The Westman Wildcats fell short of their goal to win Provincials and represent Manitoba at the Western Canadians this last weekend.
The team had to settle for a Bronze and look forward to the rest of the games this season while getting ready to build for next year.

Westman Wildcats Host Female Midget Provincials



The Westman Wildcats Female Midget hockey team will host the Provincial AA Female Midget Championship in Hartney on February 29 to March 2nd.


This 8-team event will determine the Manitoba provincial representative at the Western Canadian Shield to be held April 3rd to 6th in St Albert, Alberta.


There are two pools of four teams with three rural regional squads, Parkland Panthers, Eastman Selects along with the Host Wildcats as well as the 5 teams from the Winnipeg AA league, the league leading Assinboine Park Rangers, River East Marauders, St Vital Vics, Pembina Trail Twins and the St James Titans.


The games begin Friday Feb 29th at 9:00am with the Cats facing off against the Parkland Panthers. Games continue all day with the final game of the day sees the local Westman team playing the Titans at 7:00pm


Round robin games are all day Saturday with the feature game being at 3:00pm with the Wildcats battling the Marauders.


Sunday will see all playoff games with the two semi final games with the top two teams from each pool playing against each other at 9:00 and 11:00 am. The consolation final, 5ht vs. 6th will be at 1:00pm, with the bronze game scheduled to hit the ice at three.


The Gold medal game will be played at 5:00pm to determine Provincial supremacy and the chance to go on and represent the province at the Western Shield.

Westman Wildcats Win Eastman Tournament


The Westman Wildcat  Female Midget Team traveled to Ste Adolphe this past weekend and captured the Eastman Annual Tournament. This six-team event had rural regional teams as well as Winnipeg  squads. Westman went into this tournament with a depleted bench from injuries and illness.


Westman's first game was against the Parkland Panthers and The Cats clawed their way to a 4-2 win. Scoring for the Wildcats were Amy Lee, Meg Bailey, Jen Durnin and Erin Morrison.


The Westman team outshot Parkland 41-19 with Kim Jory picking up the win in net.


The Wildcats next action was against the Pembina Valley Hawks. The Wildcats got on the board early with Morrison scoring two in the first and Lee netting another.

Bailey and Lee potted two more in the second and Morrison rounded out the scoring in the third to get her hat trick and give the Westman squad a 6-2 win.

The Cats outshot Pembina 50-19 with Jory and Lacey Adams earning the win in net.


The Wildcats had a spot in the Finals on Sunday against the host Eastman Selects and both teams came out skating hard.


The Cats scored first with Morrison scoring from Lee. Bailey was able to dent the twine again in the first on an unassisted marker to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead after one.


The Cats struck three more times in the second, Morrison from Lee started off the scoring. Brandi Pollock than tallied from Lee and Amy VanBuskirk. Pollock got her second on a deflection from VanBuskirk and Durnin.


The Cats scored one more in the third, Cheryl Shackel markered from Morrison to round out the scoring and giving the Wildcats a 6-0 win to win the tournament.


The Cats goaltending tandem of Adams and Jory combined for the shutout stopping 14 shots while their teammates fired 45 at the Eastman tender.


The Cats next action will be  hosting the female Midget Provincial on the first weekend of March.

Westman Wildcat Female Midgets Roar Past Yellowhead


Tuesday Feb 12th saw the Yellowhead Chiefs  female Midget team host the Westman Wildcats in Birtle.


Westman was able to take it to Yellowhead in the first period out shooting the Chiefs 18 to 3 in the opening frame but were unable to solve Yellowhead goalie, Breanna Workman.


The second period again had the southern club taking it to their northern neighbor and was able to find the net at the 17:06 mark, with Jen Durnin scoring from Brandi Pollock and Sara Harmon.


Once the Cats started scoring they were able to keep it rolling with five more markers in the second period. Cheryl Shackel, scored unassisted and from Pollock and Amanda Williams, while Sara Williams scored from Pollock and Amy Lee. Amy VanBuskirk tallied from Durnin.  Shackel completed the hat trick from Sara Baker to round out the scoring in the second.


The Wildcats scored three more in the in third, Pollock netted two with helpers going to Baker, Durnin and Shackel while Erin Morrison rounded out the scoring from Megan Bailey and and Lee.


The final tally was 9-0 for the Cats with Kim Jory and Lacey Adams sharing the shut out stopping all 20 shots sent there way while their team mates fired 55 at the Chiefs net.


The Westman squad now goes to Ste Adolphe this weekend to play in Eastman's annual tournament.

Cats Play three at Shattuck St Marys

The Westman Wildcats travelled to Faribault Minn. and played a three game series with the Shattuck St Mary's program.
On Friday Shattuck jumped out to a quick 3 goal lead before Westman was able to make a game out of it dropping a 5-3 game with Shattucks getting their 5th with an empty net.
Saturday the Cats came out fast to keep up with Shattucks and out shot their opponents by more than a 2 to 1 margin but came out on the short end of a 4-3 game.
Sunday the Westman squad was determined not to go home with three L's and fought out a hard played 2-2 tie.
Westman have the next weekend off before going to Ste Adolphe to play in the annual Eastman tournament.
