Kristen is leading the league in MFMHL shutouts with 11. The GDI Goalie of the Month is Kristen Campbell of the Westman Wildcats. Campbell a grade 10 student from Brandon earns the award back to back months after posting a record of 6 wins vs. 0 loss with an amazing 5 shutouts over the 6 game span where she did not allow a goal. Campbell a first year midget for the Wildcats but in her second year with the Wildcats finished the regular season with a 15-5 record and has an outstanding GAA of 0.62 and save % of .974 both good for first in MFMHL rankings.

The WestmanWildcats were at home on Saturday, February 9th to play thier last regular season MFMHL game. Game time was 8:00pm. WILDCATS 5 WINNIPEG ICE 1 Game penalties handed out: Wildcats 13 Winnipeg Ice 6. PERIOD 1 The Wildcats were on the scoreboard before the three minute mark with a powerplay goal. It was Ashleigh Brykaliuk scoring after Jaycee Magwood fed her one with an assist also going to Melissa Hunt on the play. Less than three minutes later, the Cats got a second goal from Kjierstin Wallace, who was quick to get one in the back of the net and Jessica Vallotton got the assist. Mid period, the Wildcats were outshooting the Winnipeg Ice 9-1. PERIOD 2 The Wildcats got a third goal from Karissa Kirkup at 17:22, assisted by Ashleigh Brykaliuk and Megan Robertson. Five minutes later the Wildcats were shorthanded, the Wildcats controlling the play and it was Samantha Dyck's quick hands who got the Cats fourth goal of the game. Kirkup and Brykaliuk getting the assists. The Wildcat lines continued to add pressure at full strengh. Before the period ended the Cats got another on the score board. Jaycee Magwood took a shot inside the blue line and it was Kirkup who capitalized for her second goal of the game. After forty minutes the shots on goal were Wildcats 22 and Winnpeg Ice 10. PERIOD 3 This period saw the Wildcats handed twelve minutes of penalties with the Ice serving two minutes. The Ice got a powerplay goal mid period. Amber Tilbury made 16 saves and played strong between the pipes for the win. Game Shots on Goal: Wildcats 27 Winnipeg Ice 17.

The Wildcats travelled to MacGregor on Wednesday, February 6th for the last of a four MFMHL matchup with the Central Plains Capitals. The Wildcats have two wins on the Capitals in the previous three games. The puck dropped at 8:00pm. The crowd watched the teams play a physical game for sixty minutes. Penalties handed out Wildcats 5 Capitals 7. PERIOD 1 at the start of the period the Capitals came out pressuring, but every Wildcat showed their aggressive play. PERIOD 2 The strong play continued. The teams each pressing for opportunites at the net. The Wildcats sustaining pressure on the Caps shooters when needed. Just under the eight minute mark with the Wildcats controlling the play and Karissa Kirkup skating into postion to shoot on the Caps net.....but the Capitals were called on a penalty. The referee signaled a penalty shot. Kirkup went to the face off area, waited for the nod from the referee. She started skating up towards the goalie, her quick shot put the puck in the back of the net. All the Wildcat Fans cheered. PERIOD 3 The intensity increased for the next twenty minutes. The game ended. Wildcats Won. Shots on Goal: Wildcats 22 Capitals 28 Some key saves by Kristen Campbell secured her 11th MFMHL shutout and 13th shutout for the season.

Westman Wildcats MFMHL game at Hartney on Sunday, February 3rd 2013 Feb 4, 2013, 8:02 amWESTMAN WILDCATS GET 2OTH WIN IN MFMHL on Sunday WILDCATS 3 CENTRAL PLAINS CAPITALS 0 The Wildcats played a second game for the weekend on Sunday, February 3rd at home. It was a MFMHL game with the Central Plains Capitals. This was the third of a four league matchup for these teams. The first two league games were played at the beginning of the season. October 5th, the Capitals won 1-0 and October 13th, the Wildcats won 3-1. Sunday's crowd watched a tight checked game. Shots on goal were Wildcats 20 Central Plains 22. The penalties handed out, Wildcats 7 for 14 minutes and Central Plains 5 for 10 minutes. PERIOD 1 when the puck dropped, the Wildcats got the jump quickly pressuring the Capitals around thier net with some scoring opportunites. Minutes later for both teams the aggressive play, tight checking game began. With only seconds left on the time clock, the Wildcats would score. Gina Williams with a shot from the blue line and Amanda Coey's quick hands putting it in the net. Coey's goal would evenually be the game winner. After twenty minutes the shots on goal were Wildcats 7 Capitals 3. PERIOD 2 saw an aggressive puck battle. The Wildcats handed 2 penalties and Capitlas 3 in the period. The Wildcats would score on their last powerplay of the period @5:26. It was Jaycee Magwood who put the Wildcats up 2-0. Vallotton and Kirkup getting the assists. Again seconds before the period ended, the Cats pressuring would strike again. This time is was Karissa Kirkup with a fast pass to Ashleigh Brykaliuk and on her knees who would put one top shelf. The shots on goal Wildcats 11 Capitals 10. PERIOD 3 the aggressive play continued. The Capitlas pressuring on the Wildcat net. The Wildcats were handed 10 minutes of penalties. The game ended. Wildcats won 3-0. Campbell made 22 saves, for her 10th MFMHL shutout.

Karissa Kirkup commits to University of Maine Black Bears Jan 28, 2013, 3:30 pm
Kirkup Commits to the University of Maine Black Bears
Karissa Kirkup has committed to play for the University of Maine Black Bears for the 2013-2014 Season. The school is located in Orono, Maine enrolling more than 12,000 students. It is a 4 year University whose Black Bears play in the Women's Hockey East Association (WHEA). Karissa hails from Virden, Manitoba. Karissa has been a very consistent performer with the organization in her 4 years as a Wildcat. She has notched 130 goals and has added 134 assists in her midget career. Karissa won a silver medal in November as she played for Team Manitoba at the National U-18 Women's Championships in Dawson Creek, BC. She recently won the MVP award, top plus/minus award and earned a spot on the 1st all star team at the Mac's midget tournament over the Christmas break .The Wildcat organization would like to congratulate Karissa and wish her good luck with her academic and athletic goals in the NCAA and as a Black Bear.

Wildcats 5 Eastman 0 The Wildcats played a third game for the weekend on Sunday, January 27th at Hartney, which was a MFMHL game with the Eastman Selects. This game the Wildcats outshot Eastman 45-27. There were 11 penalties handed out, with 8 to the Wildcats. Period 1 saw Samantha Dyck net the Cats first goal with the assist going to Courtney Ganske. Period 2 The Cats were handed three more penalties. It was at the midway point when Dyck would shelf her second goal with assists going to Amanda Coey and Ashliegh Brykaliuk. Four minutes later, Amanda Coey netted a goal with help from Brykaliuk and Dyck. Period 3 with Eastman working to get one past the Wildcat goalie. The Cats would add another from Karissa Haney on a Cats powerplay assisted by Coey and Ganske. At 6:36, it was Amanda Coey picking up a shorthanded goal for her second of the game assists going to Brykaliuk and Dyck. Campbell earned her 9th MFMHL shutout.
