The Westman Wildcats would like to extend its congratulations to Charly Lindberg, a 3 rd year Wildcat from Brandon, MB, who has committed to attend school at, and play hockey with, the University of Regina Cougars in the fall of 2021. She plans to pursue an Education degree.
In 24 league games last year Charly had 12 goals, 8 assists for 20 points. Overall, in 49 games last season, she scored 19 goals and added 15 assist for 34 points. Overall, during her Wildcats career, Charly has played in 164 games and recorded 38 goals and 37 assists for 75 points. From Coach Hodges of the Regina Cougars, “Charly is a player I’ve been watching for a number of years and I appreciate her intelligence and her ability to create offense for her team. She is a heads up player who makes strong decisions with and without the puck. I look forward to seeing her further develop over the 2020-21 season before joining the Cougars in September of 2021.” The University of Regina is a member of the Canada West Conference of uSports. It is public research university located in Regina, Saskatchewan. It is composed of 10 faculties and one school that offer a variety of programs at the certificate, diploma, undergraduate and graduate degree levels. More than 12,000 students are currently enrolled.

The Westman Wildcats would like to extend its congratulations to Jori Hansen-Young, a 3rd year Wildcat from Brandon, MB, who has committed to attend school at, and play hockey with, the 2020 Canada West finalists Mount Royal University (MRU) Cougars in the fall of 2021. Hansen-Young will be joining former Wildcat players, Andrea Sanderson and Tori Williams. In 24 league games this past year Jori had 6 goals, 9 assists for 15 points. Overall, in 49 games this past season, Jori scored 11 goals and added 20 assists for 31 points. During her Wildcats career, she has played 161 games and recorded 81 points. Hansen-Young was named a 2nd team all-star this season. From MRU coach, Scott Rivett, “We are excited that Jori decided she wanted to pursue her academic and hockey goals at MRU after she graduates. She is a tremendous kid who will fit into our culture and with her size, strength and hockey sense she could have an immediate impact within our tough Canada West conference.”

It offers 13 Bachelor’s degree programs and has approximately 12,000 full and part time students. At Mount Royal you are not just another number. The Wildcats received two goals from Shaylee Scraba and one from Jori Hansen-Young. Natalie Williamson stopped 21 of 25 shots in net for the Wildcats. The Wildcats had tied the game up with 8:37 remaining in the 3rd period while on the powerplay on a shot from the slot from Makenna Beard. The Avros had opened the scoring at the 12:50 mark of the opening period. Natalie Williamson picked up the victory in net, stopping 38 of 39 shots. The two teams played to a scoreless opening period, despite both teams having some really clean looks on net. The Wildcats had the first really good opportunity of the 2nd period but they were unable to score on the breakaway. The Avros finally broke the tie with a shot from the point that deflected off something and made its way into the back of the net. They would follow up with two additional markers midway through the 3rd period to make it 3-0. The Wildcats responded with a goal very early on a 5 on 3 powerplay and still had a lot of time to work with 5 on 4 but they were unable to score again. Natalie Williamson suffered the loss in net. Game 2 goes Sunday afternoon at 2:00 PM in Hartney. Shearer Shots - 13-11 in favour of Avros Penalties - Avros - 2 Feb 21, 2020, 11:53 pm The Westman Wildcats had a huge 3rd period , including 3 unanswered goals and 3 penalty kills (one a result of their head coach's lack of self-discipline) to come back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat the Eastman Selects 3-1 in the deciding game of the series. Belle Hobbs started the comeback early in the 3rd period with a blistering shot off the post and off an Eastman player and into the net. Shaylee Scraba followed up with a beautiful finish off a 2 on 1 pass from Jori Hansen-Young just after the end of a penalty kill. Krissy Rink finished it off with an insurance marker with 1:47 remaining in the game. Natalie Williamson picked up the win in net stopping 20 of 21 shots. The Wildcats now move on to the league semi-final against the first place Winnipeg Avros. Game 1 goes Friday night in Winnipeg at the Seven Oaks Arena. Anne. Both teams traded 1st period goals and the 2nd period was scoreless, leading to a hard fought 3rd period. Unfortunately, the Wildcats gave up a couple of tough goals and were unable to bury on a few outstanding chances. Charly Lindberg picked up the lone goal for the Wildcats. Jillian Szabo suffered the loss in net stopping 20 of 23 shots. Game 5 will go this Friday night in Hartney at 7:30 PM.
