The Wildcats faced the Calgary Bruins in the first game of the 2013 Mac's tournament. After a long trip the day before, which included a wonderful turkey dinner on the bus, the ladies gutted out an effort to secure a 4-1 victory.

Shae Vallotton got the girls on the board in the first off a seeing eye wrist shot from the point that found the back of the net. Jenna Patterson picked up the lone assist. Jaycee Magwood stretched the lead to 2-0 with a wraparound goal, assisted by Megan Robertson. Shots on goal were 6-5 in favour of Calgary.

In the 2nd period, Calgary pulled within a goal on the powerplay. Westman responded with two goals of their own to take a 4-1 lead. Wildcats vs Pembina Valley
Dec 21, 2013, 10:13 am

The Wildcats traveled to Manitou on Friday night to face the Pembina Valley Hawks.

The Hawks are undefeated on the season and sit alone atop the MFMHL standings while the Wildcats sit in 6th place with a .500 record.

The Hawks scored first on the powerplay off a goal mouth scramble. The Wildcats replied with a powerplay marker of their own later in the period as Jaycee Magwood knocked home a rebound with assists going to Courtney Ganske and Megan Robertson. The period ended 1-1. Shots on goal were 11-8 in favour of PV.

The second period saw PV go up a goal again with another powerplay marker off a rebound. They went up two goals off a tough bounce shot that originated from below the goal line. Shots in the period were 13-8 in favour of PV.

The first half of the 3rd period was played largely in the neutral zone as both teams played a tentative game. Finally, after some sustained pressure in the offensive zone the Wildcats were able to tie the game as Megan Robertson tipped home a shot off the stick of Jaycee Magwood with Gina Williams also picking up an assist. The lead was short lived as the Wildcats were out worked off a defensive zone faceoff and gave up the go-ahead marker. That goal seemed to strengthen the resolve of the Wildcats as they upped the pace and pressed again for the equalizer. They were rewarded as Courtney Ganske scored off a blast from the point off a nice setup from Jenna Patterson.

The game ended 4-4. Shots on goal in the 3rd period were 8-7 in favour of the Wildcats. Sky Brown was in net for the Wildcats.

Wildcats vs Central Plains
Dec 15, 2013, 9:02 am

The Wildcats traveled to Portage on Saturday for a league game vs the Central Plains Capitals.

Despite being tentative and sluggish the Wildcats got out to an early lead on an even strength goal by Megan Robertson, assisted by Jaycee Magwood. That lead would not be held for long as CP pushed hard and carried the play. CP tied the game on a short handed effort. The score at the end of the 1st period was 1-1. Shots on goal were 8-4 in favour of CP.

In the second period, the Wildcats still struggled to find their game. CP was very aggressive each shift and battled hard for pucks throughout. This led to a number of of powerplay opportunities that the Wildcats were unable to convert on due to a lack of committed intensity. Eventually, CP got a powerplay of their own and capitalized again to make the score 2-1 after two periods. The Wildcats, due to their numerous powerplay opportunities, outshot CP 9-6 in that period.

In the 3rd period, CP scored another powerplay goal to make it a 3-1 game. It was not looking good for the Wildcats. However, with under 9 minutes to play, Jaycee Magwood decided to put the team on her shoulders and scored with a brilliant individual effort that knocked the water bottle off the net. A couple of minutes later she scored her second of the game to knot it up at 3-3. That is how the game ended. The Wildcats managed to steal back a point despite an overall poor effort. Shots on goal in the 3rd period were 8-6 in favour of Westman.

Final shots on net were 21-20 in favour of Westman. Sky Brown was in net for the Wildcats.

Westman Wildcats Alumni Skate
Dec 14, 2013, 7:47 am

The Wildcat program rings in the Xmas holidays with the help of their alumni.  The wildcats will once again  host their annual

Wildcats Alumni vs Westman Wildcats game

Hartney Arena

Sunday, December 22nd

7:30pm.

Whether you are still actively playing the game or not we hope you are able to join us.  With many of the Alumni returning from their university/college teams for the holidays it is a good way to get old and new together to catch up on everyone’s activities for the first half of the season or for the opportunity to reconnect with some of those old teammates/coaches you have not seen for years.

We hope you are able to join us on December 22.  We have tried to connect with all former Wildcats but please pass this on as we do not have all addresses for former Wildcat players.  If you could let us know if you will be attending and what you have been doing since graduating that would be appreciated.

You can respond to us at svrc@mymts.net or mphunt@live.com

Hope to see you at the rink on December 22nd.
