Congratulations to Keisha Robertson, from Oak Lake Beach, who has committed to attend school at, and play hockey with, the SAIT Trojans (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology).  Keisha is a 3rd year Wildcat and will be attending SAIT in the fall of 2014.  She will be entering Medical Radiologic Technology.  Keisha is known as a player who, although being small in stature, is big in desire.  She is strong on the forecheck, is an aggressive penalty killer, and has a heavy shot.  In 51 games so far this year she has 3 goals, 5 assists for 8 points overall.  She is a -7 in the plus/minus category and has 34 penalty minutes.  Keisha played a significant role in the Wildcats championship run at the annual Mac’s tournament in Calgary over Christmas break this year.

The Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, also known as SAIT Polytechnic, is a polytechnic institute located in Calgary, Alberta. â€¨SAIT offers more than 100 career programs in technology, trades, and business. SAIT, which was established in 1916, is Calgary’s oldest post-secondary institution and Canada’s first publicly funded technical institute.  The Trojans are a member of the ACAC (Alberta Colleges Athletics Conference).

The Westman Wildcats wish Keisha all the best as she continues her hockey career and academic pursuits at the next level.

Both teams battled hard through the first two periods but were unable to generate any real strong scoring chances.

The game was scoreless through two periods of play until Ashton Bell roofed a backhand over the glove of the PV tender. Assists on the goal went to Megan Robertson and Jaycee Magwood. Later, on the powerplay, Missy Hunt scored on a wrist shot from the slot to make it 2-0 for Westman. That is how the game ended.

Wildcats vs St. Mary's
Feb 2, 2014, 9:40 am

The Wildcats again hosted the St. Mary's Flames in an exhibition match Saturday afternoon in Hartney. This game ended up being as well played and exciting as Friday night's game.

The Wildcats again got off to an early lead as Megan Robertson tallied, with the assist going to Jaycee Magwood. St. Mary's tied it up on the powerplay midway through the period. The Wildcats got that one back when Jaycee Magwood tipped in a point shot, assisted by Missy Hunt. The period ended 2-1 for Westman. Shots on goal in the 1st period were 14-6 in favour of St. Mary's.

In the 2nd period the Flames were able to tie the game up on an even strength goal. The period ended 2-2. Shots on goal were 7-4 in favour of St. Mary's.

The Wildcats were forced to begin the 3rd period on the penalty kill. Early into the kill they took another penalty to make it a 5 on 3 situation against. St.Mary's capitalized on a funny bounce off a shin pad to a wide open player in the slot to make it a 3-2 game. The Flames were able to score two more late goals as the Wildcats pushed to tie the game up. Shots on goal in the 3rd period were 7-7.

Final score of the game, 5-2 for St. Mary's. Final shots on goal were 28-17 in favour of the Flames. Amber Tilbury suffered the loss.

Wildcats vs St. Mary's
Feb 2, 2014, 8:48 am

The Wildcats hosted St.Mary's Flames on Friday evening in Hartney.

The Wildcats go on the scoreboard early in the 1st period off a goal by Ashton Bell, assisted by Jaycee Magwood and Keisha Robertson. St. Mary's tied the game up off a point shot. But the Wildcats were able to restore the one goal lead with a powerplay goal from Ashton Bell, her second goal of the game. Assists went to Katie Crowe and Jaycee Magwood. Shots on goal in the period were 8-5 in favour of St. Mary's.

In the 2nd period the Wildcats scored early again as Jaycee Magwood notched her first of the game, assisted by Ashton Bell. St. Mary's responded to make the score 3-2. The Wildcats restored the two goal lead on the powerplay off a deflection goal by Jaycee Magwood, her second of the game. Courtney Ganske, with a beautiful setup, and Megan Robertson had the assists. St. Mary's again scored off a funny rebound to make it a one goal game. Shots on goal in the period were 10-2 in favour of St. Mary's.

In the 3rd, St. Mary's came out flying and hemmed the Wildcats in their own zone. Westman ended up taking a couple of penalties but were able to kill them off. They weathered the storm and began to push back. Unfortunately, a couple more penalties in the middle of the frame restored St. Mary's momentum and they were able to tie the game on the powerplay. The Wildcats got back to work and again began to pressure the Flames resulting in a powerplay chance of their own. Westman had a couple of great chances to restore the one goal lead but unfortunately, a bad bounce off the wall at the blue line resulted in a short handed breakaway goal by St. Mary's to take the lead for the first time 5-4. They would add an empty netter. Shots in the period were 13-6 in favour of St. Mary's.

Final score, 6-4 for St.Mary's.

Sky Brown suffered the loss. Final shots on net were 31-13 in favour of St. Mary's.
