Campbell gets the call for Hockey Manitoba’s Summer Prep Camp

Congratulations to Kristen Campbell of Chater who has been selected to the next stage of Hockey Manitoba’s Program of Excellence for the U18 Team Manitoba squad that will compete at the U18 National Women’s Championship to be held in Calgary from November 6-10. Campbell is one of 3 goalies who has made the short list of players invited to participate in the Team Manitoba Prep Camp held August 15-18, 2013. The Prep Camp is the last camp setting in the POE process, however it is not the final phase before selecting the Team Manitoba roster. Following the Prep Camp, the coaches will use a combination of exhibition games and scouting to cut down to the final roster size of 20 players before the championship tournament in November. The Team Manitoba coaches have cut down to 3 goalies, 9 defenseman, and 15 forwards for the August Prep camp.

The Westman Wildcats organization is very proud of you Kristen and wish you good luck in the upcoming camp!

Experience as a professional hockey player (NHL,AHL,Swedish Elite League)

Jon will be working primarily at the Souris Location

Westman Wildcats have one more opportunity before we all get some great summer weather.   This year Jonathon Filewich who now works with Outperfome Athletics will be running a pre-training evaluation. We would like to invite  everyone who attended our spring camp or anyone who has an interest in trying out for the Wildcats in the fall.    If you are interested in attending please let us know by June 28th.     If you have any questions don’t hesitate to contact us by email at svrc@mymts.net or at the numbers listed below.  Hope to see you in July.

For any returning wildcats this is a mandatory session.  Jon runs training sessions throughout the summer but most of you will have your own program in your community that you follow.  We will do a final evaluation near the end of August.  For any of you who have already done your initial  assessment with Jon you do not need to attend the July 3rd session but will be retested in August.

The pre-training evaluation will be    July 3 from 1pm to 3pm at the Souris School

Melissa     Jaycee

Congratulations to Melissa Hunt, Kristen Campbell, and Jaycee Magwood for being selected to Hockey Manitoba’s Program of Excellence Top 40. Each Wildcat is fighting for one of twenty roster spots that are up for grabs. Notable mention is Courtney Ganske who was chosen as an alternate player so if any  Top 40 player was injured or unable to attend the May 10-12 tournament, she would be called upon. If the 3 players are chosen for the top 20 they will travel to Calgary, AB in November for the U-18 National Championships. The U-18 Nationals were a stepping stone for a lot of players who are on rosters of Canada’s U-18, U-22, and the National women’s team.

Brigette                     Brigettte

Former Westman Wildcat and current University of Minnesota Duluth player Brigette Lacquette has been chosen by Hockey Canada to come to Calgary on August 6 and train full time for the chance to make Team Canada for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Lacquette was one of four current or former Bulldog players named to Canada's National Women's Team centralization roster Thursday, along with UMD alumni Jocelyne Larcoque, Haley Irwin and Caroline Ouellette. One of 27 players that will be centralized, Lacquette, a sophomore from Mallard, Manitoba, was one of only five players chosen to join Canada that was not on the world championship roster from earlier this year. Brigette was part of the Esso Cup winning Wildcats in the 2008/2009 hockey season before going on to play for the Bulldogs. Brigette is the fourth player from the Wildcats organization who has been selected to try out for Team Canada along with former Wildcat star Brittany Phillips-Colgate University, Karissa Kirkup-University of Maine and Ashleigh Brykaliuk- University of Minnesota-Duluth.

The Westman Wildcats would like to wish Brigette good luck on trying to crack the Women’s National team.

Congratulations to Karissa Kirkup and Ashleigh Brykaliuk for being invited to attend Hockey Canada’s U22 strength and conditioning camp. Hockey Canada’s National Women’s Program is conducting the camp for U22 aged athletes in consideration for their program for the 2013-2014 season. The Wildcat organization would like to congratulate Karissa and Ashleigh for achieving their dreams and goals and maybe someday playing for the National Women’s team. Good luck and make us proud!

The second step in Canada’s Program of Excellence, the National Women’s Under22/Development Team meets twice a year, for a summer camp and three-game series, typically against the U.S., in August, and again for an international tournament in January.

Since 1990, Canada’s National Women’s Team has been a power on the world stage, winning 10 world titles, three Olympic gold medals and 12 - 3 Nations/4 Nations Cups. Its success has helped women’s hockey registration numbers skyrocket in the last decade.
