Wildcats vs Regina at Firestarter Tournament in Calgary

The Wildcats season officially got under way with its full roster this weekend in Calgary at the Firestarter tournament.  In their first game the Wildcats were defeated 6-3 by the Regina Rebels.

1st Period

8:20 - Rebels goal

Shots - 16-7 in favour of Regina

Penalties - 1 each

2nd Period

14:44 - Rebels goal

2:07 - Wildcats goal - Hubbard from Williams and Wickham on the powerplay

Shots - 16-9 in favour of Regina

Penalties - Regina 4, Westman 2

3rd Period

17:56 - Wildcats goal - O'Hara from Walker on the powerplay

Williams makes U18 Top 27 - Trio of Bantams make U16 Top 27

The Westman Wildcats would like to congratulate defenseman Tori Williams for successfully making it through to the Team Manitoba U18 Top 27.  As well, the Wildcats family would like to also congratulate 3 members of the Bantam Wildcats squad (Jillian Szabo - goal, Natalie Williamson - goal,  and Shaylee Scraba - forward) for also making it through to the U16 Top 27. The next phase for all players will be to participate in the POE July Prep Camps which will be held in Winnipeg the week of July 5-9, 2017.  The U18 group will also participate in an exhibition series versus the University of Manitoba during the first weekend of September.
 
This is the third phase of the female Program of Excellence which leads towards the selection of the U18 Team Manitoba as well as the U16 Team Manitoba. U18 Team Manitoba will go on to participate in the 2017 Women's U18 National Championship in Quebec City, Quebec in November 2017.
 
Congratulations, ladies.

Gervin named to U16 Top 40

The Westman Wildcats would like to congratulate Gilly Gervin on being selected to the Top 40 for the Team Manitoba U16 program. Gilly will be competing in Portage this weekend for a spot in the Top 27.  Good luck.


5 Wildcats Invited to Top 40

The Westman Wildcats would like to congratulate Jenna Marshall, Ashley Seekings, Cammy Clyne, Tori Williams, and Aly O'Hara on their invitation to Team Manitoba's Top 40 Camp to be held in Portage La Prairie May 11 to 14.  Give it your all, ladies.


Wildcats Season Ends With Heartbreaking 7-6 Loss

 Game 2 of the Regional Championship went Saturday night in Prince Albertand the Wildcats came out flying.  Cammy Clyne got things rolling with an early powerplay goal at the 15:19 mark to make it 1-0. Aly O'Hara and Tori Williams picked up the assists on the play.  Josee Casavant would make it 2-0 just 35 seconds later as she shelved a shot off a 2 on 1. Andrea Sanderson and Shae Vallotton picked up the assists.  The Bears would fight back however and score two goals in the last 8 minutes of the period to tie the game. Shots on goal in the period were 10-7 in favour of PA and they took the lone minor penalty.

 
The Bears would take a 3-2 lead early in the 2nd period. The Wildcats would right the ship though and Ashton Bell would tie it up at the 14:53 mark with a high snap shot off the face off win by Sanderson to make it 3-3.  Josee Casavant would score her second of the game at the 3:48 mark to give the Wildcats the lead.  Bell had the lone assist on the play.  Shots on goal in the period were 10-9 in favour of the Bears.  The Wildcats took the lone penalty of the period.  
 
In the 3rd the Wildcats would take a two goal lead at the 18:53 mark on the powerplay as Bell scored her 2nd of the game with a hard snap shot top shelf. Vallotton and Williams picked up the assists.  They make it a 6-3 game at the 13:24 make as Haley Wickham finished off a feed from Bell and Meek.  PA would respond with a goal off the rush at the 12:33 mark to make it 6-4.  They would make it a 6-5 game with a seeing eye shot from the point at the 7:54 mark. A questionable penalty call put the Bears on the powerplay and they would tie it with 3:13 to play on a well placed shot.  The comeback would be complete as they scored off a tip in with 2 minutes remaining. The Wildcats pushed to tie and would miss a glorious opportunity with 20 seconds remaining.  Game over.  Shots in the 3rd were 11-9 in favour of PA. Each team took a minor penalty.
 
Kaitie Slator suffered the loss in net.  
 
Tough end to a great season.
