Brykaliuk commits to the University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs

Ashleigh Brykaliuk has committed to play for the Division 1 Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs for the 2013-2014 hockey season.  It is a 4 year University whose Bulldogs play in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). Brandon, Manitoba is where Ashleigh hails from and she attends Vincent Massey High School. Ashleigh, a forward with the Wildcats, has been a consistent performer so far this season with the Wildcats accumulating 28 goals and 26 assists in 40 games. Before joining the Wildcats for her final year of midget, she starred for the Balmoral Hall Blazers of the Junior Women's hockey league (JWHL). In that year with the Blazers in the 2011-2012 season she amassed 15 goals and added 26 assists in 30 games finishing 4th in conference scoring. Ashleigh won a silver medal in November when she played for Team Manitoba at the National U-18 Midget Female Championships. Over the Christmas break she got a chance to represent Team Canada at the 2012 U-18 World Women's hockey championships, winning a Gold medal. The Wildcat organization would like to congratulate Ashleigh on her accomplishments and wish her good luck with her academic and athletic goals in the NCAA and as a Bulldog. 

Westman Wildcats in Winnipeg for Exhibition game vs. St. Mary's Academy Sunday, January 13th 2013

The Westman Wildcats were at the MTS Iceplex in Winnipeg on Sunday, January 13th for a season first exhibition game with St. Mary's Academy Prep School @ 12:40pm.
This game saw end to end play with both teams pressuring. Wildcats totalled 31 shots on goal. The Cats handed one penalty in the second and one in the third.
Period 1 saw Dyck getting the Wildcats first goal. Less than a minute later Pringle would score. Period 2 it was Brykaliuk at 16:45 who would score. Before the period ended Pringle would add two more. This period the Wildcats outshot St. Mary's 23-18. Period 3 the Cats with quality opportunities added five more goals. Magwood and Pringle each with one. Brykaliuk with two. Kirkup with two, one which was the game winner coming at :05 left in the period for the 11th goal of the game. Tilbury made 19 saves.

Westman Wildcats @ Hartney for MFMHL game Saturday, January 12th 2013

Wildcats  6   Eastman Selects 0
The Wildcats played at home for a MFMHL game with the Eastman Selects on Saturday, January 12th. Game time was 6:00pm. This win on Saturday was the Wildcats third consecutive MFMHL win for 2013.
This game saw the Wildcats outshoot Eastman 41-15. Penalties handed out totalled 11, with 7 (4-1-2) going to the Wildcats. Period 1 from the opening faceoff, the Wildcats quickley got their first goal from Magwood with assists going to Vallotton and Whaley. Before the period ended Haney would get the Cats second goal with help from Ganske and Coey. Period 2 the Cats continued to pressure. The Cats handed one penalty for the period and Brykaliuk quickley picked up two shorthanded goals. Period 3 saw the Cats add two more goals to the scoreboard before the period ended. Brykaliuk got another goal after a feed from Pringle and Dyck got the sixth goal. Campbell earned her fourth consecutive league shutout.

Vallotton Commits to the University of Maine Black Bears

Jessica Vallotton has committed to play for the Division 1 University of Maine Black Bears for the 2013-2014 hockey season. The school is located in Orono, Maine enrolling more than 12,000 students. The state is situated on the Northeastern tip of the United States. It is a 4 year University whose Black Bears play in the Women's Hockey East Association(WHEA). Jessica plans on majoring in Engineering. Jessica, a defensemen for the Wildcats, hails from Ninette, Mb.  Jessica has been a very consistent performer in her 4 years as a Wildcat. She has amassed 59 goals and has added 81 assists in her midget career. Most notably in the 2011-2012 hockey season when she scored an unprecedented 32 goals as a rearguard. Jessica recently won a silver medal when she played for Team Manitoba in November at the National U-18 National Women's Championships. The Wildcat organization would like to congratulate Jessica and wish her luck in her academic and athletic goals in the NCAA and as a Black Bear.

Wildcats 3  Yellowhead Chiefs

The Wildcats were at Shoal Lake for a game with the Yellowhead Chiefs on Wednesday, January 9th. Game time was 7:30pm. This was the third league matchup out of four scheduled MFMHL games, they will play again on Wednesday, January 23rd back at Shoal Lake.
The game saw a battle on the boards. The Chiefs appreared to be ready for a game with the Wildcats. Penalties handed out in the game, Wildcats 6 Chiefs 7. Period One started slow with shots on goal. At the midway point of the period it was a 1-0 game for the Cats, Haney scored with Pringle's help. Period Two the Wildcats out shot the Chiefs 18-5. The Cats second goal came from Kirkup after getting a quick feed from Coey with Brykaliuk getting the play started. The period ended 2-0 for the Wildcats. Period Three the Cats got another goal from Magwood at 11:29 with assists going to M. Roberston and Haney. The Chiefs adding pressure the remainder of the period. Game ended 3-0 for the Wildcats. Game Shots on Goal: Wildcats 36 Chiefs 29.
Campbell played well blocking all shots and earned her second consecutive league shutout and third shutout vs. the Chiefs.

The Wildcats next league game is this Saturday, January 12th at Hartney @ 6:00pm with the Eastman Selects.

Amanda Coey Commits to Wisconsin Superior Yellowjackets

Coey commits to University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets

Amanda Coey has verbally committed to play for the Division 3 Wisconsin Superior Yellowjackets for the 2013-2014 hockey season. The school is situated on Lake Superior and enrolls 4000 students.   It is a 4 year University whose Yellowjackets play in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association(NCHA). The women's hockey team currently sits in 4th place in the NCHA standings. Amanda hails from Brandon, Mb where she maintains honor roll status at the Crocus Plains Regional Secondary high school. Amanda plans on majoring in Science when she enrolls at the University. Amanda has been a consistent player for the Wildcats in this being her 4th year in the organization. She has amassed 67 goals and 61 assists respectively in her time as a Wildcat and really looks forward in continuing to be an offensive threat for the Yellowjackets. The Wildcat organization would like to congratulate Amanda on her recent achievement and wish her good luck with her academic and athletic goals in the NCAA and as a Yellowjacket.

The Westman Wildcats were at Hartney Community Arena Sunday, January 6th for their first MFMHL game for 2013. The visiting team was the 2012 Esso Cup Champions Pembina Valley Hawks. This was the last of a four league matchup for these teams. The Wildcats with the win at home Sunday 1-0, each team has two wins. The Cats first win 2-0 over the Hawks was in Altona on December 15th. The third league game Saturday, December 22nd at Manitou was two minutes away from a 0-0 game, when the Hawks got a shorthanded goal from Carels.

Sunday, January 6th:   Wildcats 1  Hawks 0
The first period saw the Wildcats come out pressuring the Hawks with opportunites at the net. The Cats would be the first to get one on the scoreboard at 16:13 from Magwood with assists going to Hunt and Kirkup. It was a physical game with all the Cats forwards and defence contributing until the timeclock ended in the third period.  Penalties: Wildcats 3  Hawks 0    Shots on Goal: Wildcats 22  Hawks 32. 
Campbell shutout the Hawks again. This was her 5th MFMHL shutout and 8th for the season.

The Westman Wildcats next league game is Wednesday, January 9th with the Yellowhead Chiefs at Shoal Lake. Game Time 7:30pm.
