WESTMAN WILDCATS IMPROVE MFMHL RECORD TO 19-5-1
with Win over Eastman Selects

The Wildcats played a third game for the weekend on Sunday, January 27th at Hartney, which was a MFMHL game with the Eastman Selects. This game the Wildcats outshot Eastman 45-27. There were 11 penalties handed out, with 8 to the Wildcats. Period 1 saw Samantha Dyck net the Cats first goal with the assist going to Courtney Ganske. Period 2 The Cats were handed three more penalties. It was at the midway point when Dyck would shelf her second goal with assists going to Amanda Coey and Ashliegh Brykaliuk. Four minutes later, Amanda Coey netted a goal with help from Brykaliuk and Dyck. Period 3 with Eastman working to get one past the Wildcat goalie. The Cats would add another from Karissa Haney on a Cats powerplay assisted by Coey and Ganske. At 6:36, it was Amanda Coey picking up a shorthanded goal for her second of the game assists going to Brykaliuk and Dyck. Campbell earned her 9th MFMHL shutout.


Westman Wildcats play two Exhibition Games @ Hartney Friday, January 25th & Saturday, January 26th 2013

The Wildcats played two exhibition games Friday, January 25th and Saturday, January 26th at Hartney with St. Mary's Academy Flames Prep School from Winnipeg.
GAME 1 FRIDAY @ 5:30PM    WILDCATS 3  ST. MARY'S 2
This game saw both teams playing hard. The Wildcats outshot St. Mary's 42-28. Penalties handed out: Wildcats 4 St. Mary's 2. Period 1 saw The Cats getting on the scoreboard first at 6:52 with a powerplay goal from Jessica Vallotton.The period ended 1-0 for the Wildcats. Period 2 both teams battling for the puck. St. Mary's would get a powerplay goal at 14:21. The period ended 1-1. Period 3 Less than four minutes in, The Wildcats got the lead. Karissa Haney put one past the Flames goalie, with help from Magwood and Patterson. Shortly after, St. Mary's adding pressure on a five on three powerplay but unable to capitalize on the Wildcat net. The fast tempo building.At the 3:55 mark St. Mary's would get the tying goal. Less than a minute left in the period, The Cats quickley got the winner. The crowd cheered on the exciting play they witnessed. The goal was a quick shot from Samantha Dyck, with assists going to Teagan Pringle and Ashleigh Brykaliuk. The Cats won 3-2. Campbell made 26 saves.
GAME 2  SATURDAY @ 12:30pm   WILDCATS 0  ST. MARY'S 1
This game saw 14 penalties handed out, seven to each team. Period 1 saw end to end action. St.Mary's pressuring would get a powerplay goal at 8:58. Period 2 the tempo building. The Cats with more scoring opportunites on the St. Mary's goalie. The Cats defending a four minute penalty six minutes left in the period. Period 3 The fast pace continued. Both teams handed 3 penalities each in the period. Campbell made 46 saves in the game.

WESTMAN WILDCATS WITH 6th CONSECUTIVE MFMHL WIN on Wednesday  FOR BEST WIN STREAK IN LEAGUE

WILDCATS
4  YELLOWHEAD CHIEFS 0
The Wildcats were at Shoal Lake on Wednesday, January 23rd for the last of a four MFMHL game schedule with the Yellowhead Chiefs. This game saw 11 penalties handed out. Wildcats were shorthanded for 16 minutes and the Chiefs 6 minutes, accounting for the close shots on goal. Game Shots on Goal: Wildcats 27 Chiefs 24. Period 1 saw the Chiefs stepping up and at times outworking the Wildcats. The period ended 0-0. Period 2 The Wildcats picked up their pace. The Cats with shots on goal opportunities. It was at 10:58 when Samantha Dyck's shot got the Wildcats on the scoreboard with the assist going to Amanda Coey. Before the period ended Jaycee Magwood put the Cats up 2-0, with help from Karissa Kirkup and Karissa Haney. Period 3 saw The Cats handed 5 penalties, with 2 for the Chiefs. The Chiefs were playing hard to get on the scoreboard. The Wildcats mid period got another goal, this time from Ashleigh Brykaliuk assisted by Melissa Hunt. Six minutes later Gina Williams notched the next Wildcat goal with her shot from the blue line. Campbell earned the shutout, for her 8th MFMHL shutout.

Brykaliuk commits to the University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs

Ashleigh Brykaliuk has committed to play for the Division 1 Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs for the 2013-2014 hockey season.  It is a 4 year University whose Bulldogs play in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). Brandon, Manitoba is where Ashleigh hails from and she attends Vincent Massey High School. Ashleigh, a forward with the Wildcats, has been a consistent performer so far this season with the Wildcats accumulating 28 goals and 26 assists in 40 games. Before joining the Wildcats for her final year of midget, she starred for the Balmoral Hall Blazers of the Junior Women's hockey league (JWHL). In that year with the Blazers in the 2011-2012 season she amassed 15 goals and added 26 assists in 30 games finishing 4th in conference scoring. Ashleigh won a silver medal in November when she played for Team Manitoba at the National U-18 Midget Female Championships. Over the Christmas break she got a chance to represent Team Canada at the 2012 U-18 World Women's hockey championships, winning a Gold medal. The Wildcat organization would like to congratulate Ashleigh on her accomplishments and wish her good luck with her academic and athletic goals in the NCAA and as a Bulldog. 


Westman Wildcats in Winnipeg for Exhibition game vs. St. Mary's Academy Sunday, January 13th 2013

WILDCATS WIN EXHIBITION GAME IN WINNIPEG

The Westman Wildcats were at the MTS Iceplex in Winnipeg on Sunday, January 13th for a season first exhibition game with St. Mary's Academy Prep School @ 12:40pm.
This game saw end to end play with both teams pressuring. Wildcats totalled 31 shots on goal. The Cats handed one penalty in the second and one in the third.
Period 1 saw Dyck getting the Wildcats first goal. Less than a minute later Pringle would score. Period 2 it was Brykaliuk at 16:45 who would score. Before the period ended Pringle would add two more. This period the Wildcats outshot St. Mary's 23-18. Period 3 the Cats with quality opportunities added five more goals. Magwood and Pringle each with one. Brykaliuk with two. Kirkup with two, one which was the game winner coming at :05 left in the period for the 11th goal of the game. Tilbury made 19 saves.

WESTMAN WILDCATS WIN MFMHL GAME AT HOME

Wildcats  6   Eastman Selects 0
The Wildcats played at home for a MFMHL game with the Eastman Selects on Saturday, January 12th. Game time was 6:00pm. This win on Saturday was the Wildcats third consecutive MFMHL win for 2013.
This game saw the Wildcats outshoot Eastman 41-15. Penalties handed out totalled 11, with 7 (4-1-2) going to the Wildcats. Period 1 from the opening faceoff, the Wildcats quickley got their first goal from Magwood with assists going to Vallotton and Whaley. Before the period ended Haney would get the Cats second goal with help from Ganske and Coey. Period 2 the Cats continued to pressure. The Cats handed one penalty for the period and Brykaliuk quickley picked up two shorthanded goals. Period 3 saw the Cats add two more goals to the scoreboard before the period ended. Brykaliuk got another goal after a feed from Pringle and Dyck got the sixth goal. Campbell earned her fourth consecutive league shutout.


Jessica Vallotton commits to the University of Maine Black Bears

Vallotton Commits to the University of Maine Black Bears

Jessica Vallotton has committed to play for the Division 1 University of Maine Black Bears for the 2013-2014 hockey season. The school is located in Orono, Maine enrolling more than 12,000 students. The state is situated on the Northeastern tip of the United States. It is a 4 year University whose Black Bears play in the Women's Hockey East Association(WHEA). Jessica plans on majoring in Engineering. Jessica, a defensemen for the Wildcats, hails from Ninette, Mb.  Jessica has been a very consistent performer in her 4 years as a Wildcat. She has amassed 59 goals and has added 81 assists in her midget career. Most notably in the 2011-2012 hockey season when she scored an unprecedented 32 goals as a rearguard. Jessica recently won a silver medal when she played for Team Manitoba in November at the National U-18 National Women's Championships. The Wildcat organization would like to congratulate Jessica and wish her luck in her academic and athletic goals in the NCAA and as a Black Bear.
