Wildcats Finish 2018 with a Hard Earned Overtime Victory over the Ice

After playing at home in Hartney on Friday night the Westman Wildcats got up early and traveled to Winnipeg to face off against the Winnipeg Ice.  The Ice came out flying in the opening period and took advantage of a sluggish Wildcats team who were fortunate to get out of the opening period only down 1-0 as Natalie Williamson made several big saves throughout the frame. The Wildcats would regain their composure in the 2nd period and tilt the ice in their favour but a pair of penalties against slowed them down a bit and gave the momentum right back to the Ice.  The Wildcats fought hard and dug deep in the 3rd period and were finally rewarded with 8:23 remaining as Gilly Gervin knocked in a rebound to tie the game.  In overtime, Paige Hubbard drove the puck up the ice buried a nice shot for the winning goal.  Natalie Williamson was the star of the game throughout, stopping 35 of 36 shots for the Wildcats.

Wildcats Defeat Central Plains

Gilly Gervin scored a pair of goals in the 2nd period to lead the Westman Wildcats to a 4-2 victory over the Central Plains Capitals on Friday night in Hartney.  The Wildcats pushed hard to earn a 3-0 lead going into the 2nd period intermission.  Central Plains finally got on the board with 2:33 remaining in the game.  Each team score another goal after that to make it 4-2.  Jillian Szabo picked up the win in net.

1st Period

The Westman Wildcats were defeated 2-1 by a very determined Pembina Valley Hawks squad that simply outworked the home squad.  Natalie Williamson suffered the loss in net.

The Westman Wildcats traveled to Shoal Lake to face off against the Yellowhead Chiefs on Friday night and came home with a 4-3 overtime victory.  Shaylee Scraba was the overtime hero for the Wildcats, scoring with 6.9 seconds remaining in overtime.  Jillian Szabo picked up the win in net for the Wildcats.

The Westman Wildcats battled hard throughout the game but fell to the Edge Mountaineers 4-2 on Saturday night in Wilcox. The Mountaineers scored the go-ahead goal with 9:05 remaining in the 3rd period on a missed icing call.  They sealed it with an empty netter with 3 seconds to play.

Wildcats vs Eastman

The Westman Wildcats defeated the Eastman Selects 2-1 in overtime this morning in Milestone. The Wildcats got up early on a 1st Period goal from Gilly Gervin.  Jillian Szabo shut the door with some big saves until Eastman scored off the rush with 1:12 remaining in regulation. Jenny Shearer scored with 1:23 remaining in the first overtime as her point shot went off the post and off the Eastman goaltender's leg and into the net. The Wildcats will play their final game at 6:00 PM.

The Westman Wildcats lost 2-0 to the Notre Dame Hounds on Friday afternoon in Wilcox. Natalie Williamson was very busy in net but stood tall throughout.  The Wildcats finished last in their pool and will face Eastman tomorrow morning at 8 AM in Milestone.

Wildcats vs Edmonton

The Westman Wildcats suffered through a rough opening period and fell behind 2-0.  However, they recovered in the final two periods to tie the game 2-2.  The Wildcats had numerous chances to score the go ahead goal and hit the post in the final minute. Shaylee Scraba and Aly O'Hara scored for the Wildcats. Jillian Szabo was in net.
