Wildcats vs Shaftesbury

Despite outshooting their opponent 28-14, the Westman Wildcats fell 2-1 to the Shaftesbury Titans in Hartney on Saturday afternoon.

The game was scoreless in the 1st as both teams struggled to find their game. Shots on goal in the period were 9-3 in favour of Westman. Westman took 3 penalties to the Titans 2.

In the 2nd period, after Westman had squandered a couple of great scoring chances of their own, including a breakaway chance that hit the post, Shaftesbury took the lead on a breakaway with 3 minutes remaining in the period.  Shots on goal in the 2nd period were 9-7 in favour of Westman. Westman took 1 penalty in the period.

In the 3rd period, the Titans stretched their lead to 2-0 after a Wildcats defender caught an edge, allowing the Titans player to go in alone. Kenzie Robinson would score immediately from the ensuing faceoff on a brilliant individual effort to make it a one goal game again.  The Wildcats pushed to the end but were unable to beat the Titans goaltender, Dowhy.  Shots on goal in the period were 10-4 in favour of Westman.  The Titans took 4 penalties to the Wildcats 1 in the period.

Katie Slator was solid in net for Westman. 

The Wildcats next game is this Wednesday, Dec 2nd, in Hartney when they host the Yellowhead Chiefs.  Game time is 7:30 PM.


Crowe Commits to University of Regina

The Westman Wildcats would like to extend its congratulations to Kaitlyn Crowe, a 4th year Wildcat from Deloraine, MB, who has committed to attend school at, and play hockey with, the University of Regina Cougars in the fall of 2016. She will be pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree.

Kaitlyn, is an assistant-captain with the Wildcats this year. In 29 league games last year she had 1 goal, 10 assists for 11 points. Overall, in 64 games last season, Kaitlyn scored 4 goals and added 14 assist for 18 points. She is a solid defender who can control the pace of the game with her patient demeanor. She is a model of character, discipline, and work ethic for her teammates.

The University of Regina is a member of the Canada West Conference of the CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sport). The University of Regina is public research university located in Regina, Saskatchewan. It is composed of 10 faculties and one school that offer a variety of programs at the certificate, diploma, undergraduate and graduate degree levels. More than 12,000 students are currently enrolled. 



Cooke Commits to University of British Columbia

The Westman Wildcats would like to extend its congratulations to Jaedon Cooke, a 3rd year Wildcat from Souris, MB, who has committed to attend school at, and play hockey with, the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds in the fall of 2016. She will be pursuing a Bachelor of Kinesiology degree.

Jaedon is coming off a season in which she was named 2nd Team All Star. In 28 league games last year she had 11 goals, 15 assists for 26 points. Overall, in 60 games last season, Jaedon scored 25 goals and added 22 assists for 47 points. She is an explosive skater and a model of character, discipline, and work ethic for her teammates.

The University of British Columbia is a member of the Canada West Conference of the CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sport). The University of British Columbia is a global centre for research and teaching, consistently ranked among the 40 best universities in the world. Wildcats vs Central Plains

The Wildcats dropped a hard fought game, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon in Portage vs the Central Plains Capitals.

The Caps got on the board first with a high knuckleball shot that was deflected, then eluded the Wildcats goaltender and hit the crossbar before dropping into the net. The Wildcats quickly responded with Kenzie Robinson scoring on the powerplay, assisted by Ashton Bell.

In the 2nd period, the Caps took full advantage of a 4 minute powerplay, scoring two goals to take the lead 3-1. Once again, the Wildcats quickly scored on a powerplay of their own with Robinson netting her second goal of the game with Bell receiving the assist again.

The Wildcats had a number of great scoring chances to tie the game up over the rest of the 2nd and 3rd period but were unable to beat the Caps goalie.

Jenna Marshall suffered the loss in net despite playing very well.

 

 


Wildcats vs Interlake

The Wildcats defeated Interlake 13-0 in Morden tonight. 

Ashton Bell led the way with 4 goals. Jaedon Cooke had 2. Ganske, O'Hara, Meek, Crowe, Vallotton, Robinson, Roach each had singles. Kaitie Slator picked up the shutout. Handle had 3 assists.

The Wildcats travel to Portage tomorrow to face Central Plains. Game time is 1:15 PM.

Wildcats vs Yellowhead

The Wildcats fell 4-3 in a shootout today in Shoal Lake versus Yellowhead.

 
The Chiefs got out to an early one goal lead on the powerplay and carried the play for the two thirds of the period.  Jaedon Cooke got the Wildcats on the board on the powerplay as she buried a rebound from an Ashton Bell shot with 2:35 remaining in the period. Bell and Ganske picked up the assists. Kenzie Robinson put the Wildcats ahead on the powerplay with 10 seconds remaining, unassisted. 
 
Yellowhead took 3 penalties to Westman's 2.  Shots were 9-3 in favour of Yellowhead.
 
In the 2nd period, the Wildcats stretched the lead to 3-1 as Haley Wickham buried a rebound, assisted by Jaedon Cooke and Brianna Williams.  Yellowhead made it a 1 goal game late in the period.  
 
Each team took a minor penalty.  The Wildcats outshot Yellowhead 6-3.
 
The Wildcats played a solid 3rd period until Yellowhead scored the tying goal with a minute to play as a deflected shot hit the post and was subsequently batted into the net.
 
Yellowhead took 2 penalties to Westman's 1. Shots in the period were 6-1 in favour of Yellowhead.  
 
Overtime solved nothing.  
 
Yellowhead scored 2 goals in the shootout to Westman's 1.
