Bell commits to University of North Dakota
Apr 16, 2016, 12:35 pm

The Westman Wildcats would like to extend its congratulations to Ashton Bell, a 3rd year Wildcat from Deloraine, MB, who has committed to attend school at, and play hockey with, the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks (a member of the WCHA – Western Collegiate Hockey Association), in the fall of 2017.  She is planning on enrolling in the 4 year Pre Vet program.

Ashton, who was an alternate captain with the Wildcats this year, is coming off a 2015-16 season in which she played 46 games and had 45 goals, 27 assists for 72 points and a plus 41. In 23 league games this past year she had 30 goals, 17 assists for 47 points. Ashton was named an MFMHL 1st team all-star and was the league’s Most Valuable Player. During the season she played for Team Manitoba at the U18 Nationals and helped lead Manitoba to a Silver Medal finish. Ashton was also named to the U18 National Team and once again helped lead Canada to a Silver Medal.  She was also named a tournament all-star at that event.  Ashton is a tremendously gifted offensive talent, who recognizes the importance of a 200 ft. game and is willing to sacrifice her body to block a shot. She is a true leader with an impeccible work ethic.

The University of North Dakota (UND) is a public research university located in Grand Forks, North Dakota.  Established by the Dakota Territorial Assembly in 1883, six years before the establishment of the state of North Dakota, UND is the oldest and largest university in the state. Former Wildcat Melissa Hunt Named to WCHA All-Rookie Team
Mar 11, 2016, 8:19 am

From Bemidji State News...

Freshman Melissa Hunt earned her first-ever league award and was named to the All-WCHA Rookie Team. Hunt is just the seventh player from Bemidji State to be named to the rookie team and follows Alexis Joyce who was selected to the team in 2014-15.

The Hartney, Manitoba native played in all 36 games as a blueliner for the Beavers and tallied two points (1g-1a) on the season. Hunt scored the first goal and point of her career on the road, Jan. 22 at the University of Minnesota Duluth. Hunt finished third on the team among defensemen and held a +4 rating on the season.

Congratulations, Missy.

Former Wildcat, Brykaliuk, garners WCHA Award
Mar 11, 2016, 8:17 am

From UMD News...

She was the University of Minnesota Duluth's leading scorer from the first game of the season, and after finishing up the first round of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's playoffs still holding that title, there's little surprise that junior forward Asheligh Brykaliuk landed on the All-WCHA Second Team on Thursday.

The Brandon, Manitoba product has compiled 47 points in 36 games on 18 goals and 29 assists, which ranks her 11th in the NCAA with a 1.36 points per game average and 12th in assists.  With three game-winning goals and four power play tallies, Brykaliuk posted 14 games with two or more points a skate and netted her 100th career point last weekend --a game-tying goal -- in UMD's series sweep of Bemidji State University.  Brykaliuk also posted a career-long 11-game scoring streak, scoring five goals and adding 14 assists from Nov. 27 until Jan. 22.

Congratulations, Ashley.
