CONGRATULATIONS AND BEST OF LUCK TO MISSY AS SHE CONTINUES HER JOURNEY TO TEAM CANADA

CALGARY, Alta. – Twenty-eight of the country’s top young female players will be on the ice beginning Wednesday at North Wentworth Arena in Hamilton, Ont., for Canada’s National Women’s Team selection camp, which runs from Dec. 10-14.

The roster includes three goaltenders, nine defencemen and 16 forwards and features three players who helped Canada win gold at the 2014 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women’s World Championship in Budapest, Hungary.

Following the selection camp, 23 players will be chosen to represent Canada at the 2015 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women’s World Championship from Jan. 5-12 at HarborCenter in Buffalo, N.Y.

The players will be on the ice for five days in Hamilton and will square off against the Ontario University Athletics All-Stars on Dec. 12 (7 p.m. ET) and Dec. 14 (11 a.m. ET) at North Wentworth Arena.

Wildcats vs Rocky Mountain

Jossa Danis scored two goals, both on the powerplay, to lead the Westman Wildcats to a 4-3 come from behind victory this morning.  Ashton Bell and Jaycee Magwood picked up one goal each with Magwood's goal coming with just over a minute remaining in the game.  Jaycee Magwood also had 3 assists. The Wildcats had to overcome a 3-1 deficit midway through the 2nd period en route to the victory.  

 
Michelle Kerdes picked up the victory and was superb in net when called upon to make a timely save. 
 
The Wildcats finish the round robin with a 4:30 tilt against Red Deer.  

Wildcats vs Swift Current

 The Wildcats were defeated 3-0 (Empty Net) by a very tenacious Swift Current squad that did not allow the Wildcats many clean opportunities to get the puck to the net.  Both goals were scored in the 2nd period, one on a 5-3 penalty against.

 
Jenna Marshall suffered the loss in net.  
 
The Wildcats face the Rocky Mountain Raiders at 10:30 AM tomorrow in Rouleau.

Wildcats vs Thompson Okanagan

The Wildcats defeated Thompson Okanagan 7-1 in their first game of the Notre Dame tournament today.  Ashton Bell led the way with 2 goals, while Jossa Danis, Jaycee Magwood, KJ Wallace, Courtney Ganske, and Katie Crowe each had singles.  Jossa Danis, Kenzie Robinson and Tori Williams each had 2 assists.  Michelle Kerdes, Jaycee Magwood, Brianna Williams, Jaedon Cooke, Mackenzie Roach, Ashton Bell, mad KJ Wallace had one assist each.  

 
Michelle Kerdes picked up the victory in net.  
 
The Wildcats play Swift Current at 8:00 PM

Wildcats vs Yellowhead

The Westman Wildcats hosted the Yellowhead Chiefs in Hartney on Tuesday night.  The 1st period was a back and forth affair with good scoring chances at either end of the arena but it was the Chiefs who were able to get on the board first on a breakaway goal by by Sam Geekie.  Shots on goal in the period were 12-9 in favour of Yellowhead.

In the 2nd, the Chiefs were the more determined team and were rewarded with a McKenna Paddock goal off a shot from the point midway through the period.  The Chiefs pressed hard to put the game away but the Wildcats weathered the storm and managed to cut the lead in half on a highlight reel goal from Jaycee Magwood with just under two minutes remaining in the period.  The lone assist went to Katie Crow.  Shots on goal in the period were 9-7 in favour of Westman.

The 3rd period saw the Wildcats push hard to tie the game up.  They had to fight through some adversity though, as they were forced to kill off a 5 on 3 penalty against.  Westman flooded the net with shots and traffic.  They came close on a couple of breakaways and hit a couple of posts.  They were finally rewarded with a powerplay goal with 1:17 remaining in the period and with the goaltender pulled for the extra attacker as Jaycee Magwood drove the net from the corner of the rink and buried a low shot to tie the game.  Assists on the play went to Kenzie Robinson and Missy Hunt.  The Wildcats didn't stop there and were almost rewarded with the winning goal as the period wound down.  Shots on goal in the 3rd were 19-4 in favour of Westman.

In overtime, it was more of the same as the Wildcats continued to press.  They were rewarded when Jenna Patterson forced a turnover with a strong forecheck and Jaedon Cooke picked up the puck and scored the winner. Shots on goal in OT were 2-1 in favour of Westman.

Final shots were 41-24 in favour of Westman.  Jenna Marshall picked up the win in net.

The Wildcats travel to Wilcox, Saskatchewan this weekend to participate in the Mandi Schwarz Showcase tournament.

MIAC WOMEN'S HOCKEY ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

8954MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College forward Megan Robertson (FY, Boissevain, Manitoba) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Hockey Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Monday.

Robertson had a three-point weekend, scoring two goals and an assist, in Augsburg's weekend split with Saint Benedict. She had an assist in the Auggies' 3-2 home loss on Friday, then scored two goals inAugsburg's 5-2 win in St. Cloud on Saturday. The two-goal effort was the first multi-goal game of Robertson's collegiate career. On the season, Robertson now has three goals and two assists for five points for the Auggies.


Wildcats vs Avros

Jaycee Magwood (assisted by Jossa Danis) and Ashton Bell (assisted by Jaycee Magwood) scored 1st period goals to lead the Westman Wildcats to a 2-1 victory over the Winnipeg Avros on Sunday afternoon in Winnipeg.  
 
Jenna Marshall picked up the win in net. Menial shots on net were 27-26 in favour of the Avros.  
 
The Wildcats host the Yellowhead Chiefs on Tuesday night in Hartney.  Game time is 8:00 PM.

Wildcats vs Eastman

Jaycee Magwood scored 4 goals and added 2 assists to lead the Westman Wildcats to a 9-1 win over the Eastman Selects.  Ashton Bell and Andrea Sanderson each had a pair of goals and KJ Wallace had a single.  Jossa Danis had 4 assists, Ashton Bell had 3 assists, Katie Crowe, Courtney Ganske, Kenzie Robinson, Jaedon Cooke, Mackenzie Roach, Tori Williams, and Mackenzie Meek each had singles.
 
Shots on goal were 47-14 in favour of Westman.  Michelle Kerdes picked up the win in net.
 
The Wildcats play the Winnipeg Avros Sunday afternoon at Keith Bodley Arena at 4:45 PM.
