Dec 17, 2016, 10:15 pm

Andrea Sanderson got the Wildcats on the board just under 7 minutes into the game on a partial breakaway as she ripped a shot high blocker. Hanna Tolton picked up the lone assist on the play.  Bell would make it 2-0 with 8:08 remaining in the period as she blew a hard snap shot low to the blocker side.  Mckenzie Meek picked up the assist on the goal.  Bell would make it 3-0 two minutes later when she buried a reboundo off a backhand from Mckenzie Meek. Shae Vallotton picked up the other assist.  The period would end 3-0. The Wildcats would outshoot the Avros 10-3 with the Avros taking the lone minor penalty.

The Avro pushed hard at the beginning of the 3rd period to get back in the game but the Wildcats weathered the storm and began to control the playbonce again. Wildcats Win on the Road in OT over Pembina Valley
Dec 17, 2016, 11:08 am

Ashton Bell scored 4 goals, one in each period, to lead the Westman Wildcats to a 4-3 overtime victory over the Pembina Valley Hawks on Friday night in Manitou.

The Wildcats came out flying and got onto the board just over 3 minutes into the game when Bell jammed home a rebound to make it 1-0.  As the period went on, the two teams settled into some end to end play as the rest of the period remained scoreless.  Each team managed 8 shots on net and the Hawks took 2 minor penalties.

The 2nd period began the same as the 1st as the Wildcats came out with some good energy.  Once again, Bell notted the twine, this time just over 3 minutes into the period on a high snap shot.  Mckenzie Meek picked up the lone assist on the play.  However, as the period wore down the Hawks fought hard and carried the play to Westman who struggled to defend as a unit.  Eventually, the Hawks were rewarded with 8:13 remaining in the period with a nice deflection off a set faceoff play to make it 2-1.  They tied the game just under 4 minutes later as the Wildcats turned over the puck in the neutral zone and gave up a 3 on 1 that the Hawks capitalized on.  The two teams headed into the dressing room tieed 2-2 after 40 minutes of play.  The Hawks outshot the Wildcats 12-5 in the period while the Wildcats took the lone minor penalty.

The 3rd period was played evenly but midway through the period, Bell scored her hat trick goal off another rebound to give the Wildcats the lead.  Meek and Hubbard picked up the assists on the play.  After the go ahead goal the Wildcats did a nice job of working the puck in the offensive zone and and killing the clock but the Hawks would capitalize on their lone chance with just under 3 minutes remaining as a Hawks forward missed the net on a shot only to have it bounce perfectly out to the other side and land on the waiting stick of another Hawks attacker who buried it into the back of the net to tie the game at 3 apiece.  The Hawks outshot the Wildcats 8-7 in the periods and took 3 of 5 minor penalties.

Cue the overtime heroics for the Wildcats as Bell scored her 4th goal of the game on the powerplay with under 40 seconds remaining in OT as she calmly pulled the puck out of a scrum in front of the net and buried the shot to the back of the net for the winning marker. Paige Hubbard and Tori Williams picked up the assists on the winner.  The Wildcats outshot the Hawks 3-2 in the extra frame.

Jenna Marshall picked up the win stopping 27 of 30 shots.  The Wildcats are back at it today at 4:45 in Winnipeg at the Keith Bodley Arena where they will face the Winnipeg Avros.  They finish off the weekend in Warren on Sunday where they will face the Interlake Lightning at 3:30 PM.

Alumni Skate
Dec 8, 2016, 9:43 pm

The Wildcat program rings in the Xmas holidays with the help of their alumni.  The wildcats will once again host their annual Wildcats Alumni vs Westman Wildcats game.

Hartney Arena

Tuesday, December 20th

7:30pm - 9:30pm

Whether you are still actively playing the game or not we hope you are able to join us.  With many of the Alumni returning from their university/college teams for the holidays it is a good way to get old and new together to catch up on everyone's activities from the first half of the season or for the opportunity to reconnect with some of those old teammates/coaches you have not seen for years.  We hope you are able to join us on December 20th.  We have tried to connect with all former Wildcats but please pass this on as we do not have all addresses for former wildcat players.  If you could let us know if you will be attending and what you have been doing since graduating that would be appreciated.

Click on the link on the left hand side to register.  If you have any questions you can email Krista: wkclyne@gmail.com

Hope to see you at the rink on December 20th.

Wildcats Defeat Eastman 3-2 in OT
Dec 3, 2016, 11:31 pm

Ashton Bell scored the winner, her second of the game, with 3:43 remaining in OT to lead the Wildcats to a come from behind 3-2 victory on Saturday night in Hartney.  The Wildcats, despite outchancing and outshooting the Selects throughout the game, had to fight for each goal they scored as the Eastman goaltender stymied them throughout the game.

After a scoreless opening period that saw the Wildcats outshoot the Selects 11-2, the Selects got on the board first in the 2nd period at the 17:48 mark off a partial breakaway. The Wildcats scored 13 seconds later to tie the game as Paige Hubbard finished off nice passing play from Bell and Meek.  Eastman would restore the lead with 11:20 remaining in the period off a deflection from the point.  The Selects would go into the 2nd intermission up 2-1. Shots were 12-8 in favour of Westman.

In the 3rd period the Wildcats battled hard to tie the game and were rewarded with Bell's first goal at the 14:23 mark as she buried a nice cross-crease pass from Andrea Sanderson.  Aly O'Hara also picked up an assist. The Wildcats thought they had won it a few minutes later as Bell buried a wraparound but the referee waived it off as he felt the net had been dislodged by the Eastman goalie prior to the puck entering the net.  The Wildcats outshot Eastman 8 to 5 in the 3rd period.

Off to OT and cue the heroics by Bell as she snapped a shot from the slot that beat the Eastman tender over the shoulder.

The Selects took 3 of 5 penalties on the night. Final shots on net were 32-15 in favour of Westman.  Jenna Marshall picked up the win in net.

The two teams square off on Sunday at 2:00 PM in Hartney.
