Wildcats vs Melville
Sep 21, 2014, 8:03 am

The Westman Wildcats traveled to Melville on Saturday to face the Melville Praire Fire.  The Wildcats were without 4 regulars (Missy Hunt, Jaycee Magwood, Jaedon Cooke, and Ashton Bell) who were playing with Team Manitoba at the Mandi Schwartz Challenge.  The Wildcats were also missing both regular goaltenders due to injury and illness.

After a slow start to the game, the Wildcats began to push the pace and took over territorial advantage of the game.  They were rewarded late in the period as Mackenzie Roach buried a one-timer shot off the post and in.  Mackenzie Meek and Jenna Patterson picked up the assists on the play. Shots on goal in the period were 10-6 in favour of Westman.

In the 2nd period, the Wildcats speed and puck movement were evident as they dominated the period.  Kenzie Robinson scored early on a high wrist shot to make it 2-0 with the assist going to Katie Crowe who made a nice pass up the middle to spring Robinson.  Shots on goal were 8-4 in favour of Westman.

The 3rd period saw Melville push throughout, but Westman held off the attack and kept all shots against to the outside and Katie Slator - in her first game ever with the Midget Wildcats - picked up the shutout.  Shots on goal in the period were 8-6 in favour of Melville.

Final shots on net were 24-18 in favour of Westman.

The Wildcats have two practices this week before heading to Portage to compete in their annual Showcase.

Sep 7, 2014, 8:26 am

Wildcats vs Swift Current

In their only game of the day the Wildcats faced Swift Current at 8:30 PM on Saturday evening.

The 1st period was scoreless as both teams struggled to get anything accomplished. Shots on goal were 6-4 in favour of Westman.

In the 2nd period, Jossa Danis was sent in on a breakaway and she didn't miss as she buried a shot low to the glove side. KJ Wallace picked up the lone assist on the play. The lead was short lived as Swift Current scored on a seeing eye shot that landed in the back of the next. The Wildcats lost all momentum as they were forced to kill 6 penalties in the last 15 minutes of the period. Shots on goal in the period were 9-1 in favour of Swift Current.

The 3rd period was completely dominated by Westman as the fired 15 shots on the Swift Current compared to 4 shots for Swift Current. However, the Swift Current goaltender stood tall and stopped them all, including a Jaycee Magwood breakaway.

Final score, 1-1.

Final shot on net were 22-17 in favour of Westman.

Wildcats vs Regina Rebels
Sep 5, 2014, 11:03 pm

The Wildcats were back on the ice tonight to face the Regina Rebels. Again, the Wildcats came out a little flat and the Rebels capitalized on a breakaway midway through the 1st period. The Wildcats responded with a strong second half of the period and were rewarded with a goal from Missy Hunt, assisted by Jaycee Magwood. Shots on goal were 13-6 in favour of Westman.

In the 2nd period Shae Vallotton put the Wildcats in the lead with a shot from the point. Shots on goal in the 2nd were 7-6 in favour of Regina.

Regina tied the game up on the powerplay early in the 3rd on a strange re-direction. The Wildcats again forged ahead as Jaycee Magwood scored on a 2 on 1, assisted by Jossa Danis. Unfortunately, the Rebels scored late on the powerplay to tie the game at 3-3. Shots on goal in the 3rd period were 11-5 Wildcats.

Final shots were 30-18 in favour of Westman.

The Wildcats face Swift Current tomorrow evening and Weyburn on Sunday morning.
