The two teams played to a scoreless opening period with the Avros outshooting Westman 9-5 But with Westman getting the majority of the quality chances. The Avros took 2 minor penalties. In the 2nd period the Avros got onto the scoreboard at the 14:49 mark after a Wildcats giveaway led to a partial breakaway for the Avros player. The Avros pushed hard for the remainder of the period and carried the play to the Wildcats. Shots on goal in the period were 12-8 in favour of Winnipeg. Each team took a minor penalty. The Wildcats returned to the ice in the 3rd period with a renewed sense of intensity. Their hard work paid off when Kailey Thomspon scored at the 16:36 mark on a backhand to tie the game. Calista Green received the lone assist. The Wildcats would take the lead at the 9:04 mark on the powerplay when Gilly Gervin buried a low shot. Paige Hubbard and Charlie Lindberg picked up the assists. Cammy Clyne put the game out of reach with 1:47 to play, assisted by Paige Hubbard and Aly O'Hara. Shots on goal in the 3rd period were 7-6 in favour of the Avros. The Avros took 2 of 3 minor penalties. Kaitie Slator picked up the win in net. Sep 23, 2017, 7:18 pm The Westman Wildcats tied the Interlake Lightning 2-2 in the 8:00 AM game today despite outshooting the Lightning 35-9. Tori Williams led the way with a goal and an assist, while Paige Hubbard picked up the other goal. Ashley Seekings and Calista Green each picked up an assist. Interlake took 5 of 7 penaltie. Jenna Marshall was in net for the Wildcats. Sep 22, 2017, 9:17 pm The Westman Wildcats defeated the Melville Prairie Fire 3-0 in the opening game of the Central Plains Showcase today in Portage. After a scoreless opening period, the Wildcats opened the scoring at the 15:06 mark of the 2nd period as Haley Wickham buried a rebound into the open net. Jori Hansen-Young and Paige Hubbard each picked up an assist on the play. The Wildcats would open up a 2-0 lead as Alecia Simpson buried the first of her career from the slot at 18:1. Haley Wickham and Kaydence Shewchuk each pick up an assist. Aly O'Hara would seal the deal with 4:10 remaining to make it 3-0. Ashley Spence picked up the lone assist on the goal. Kaitie Slator picked up the shutout victory in net. The Wildcats play tomorrow at 8:15 AM vs Interlake and at 3:00 PM vs Winnipeg. Sep 21, 2017, 12:08 pm The Wildcats Jamboree will take place at the Hartney Arena Sep 19, 2017, 5:06 pm The Westman Wildcats would like to extend its congratulations to Tori Williams, a 4th year Wildcat from Souris, MB, who has committed to attend school at, and play hockey with, the Mount Royal University (MRU) Cougars in the fall of 2018. In 28 league games last year Tori had 5 goals, 12 assists for 17 points. Overall, in 57 games last season, Tori scored 16 goals and added 21 assists for 37 points. During her Wildcats career, she has played 175 games and recorded 60 points. From MRU coach, Scott Rivett, “We feel Tori is going to have the ability to step into our line up and contribute right away. She is tremendous kid who is a dynamic skater and likes to join the attack which will fit into our style of play on the big ice. She sees the ice well and has the ability to move pucks out of her zone with ease. We are excited to welcome Tori to our program.” Mount Royal University is a member of the Canada West Conference of the CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sport).
