Clyne commits to University of Regina

The Westman Wildcats would like to extend its congratulations to Camryn Clyne, a 3rd year Wildcat from Boissevain, MB, who has committed to attend school at, and play hockey with, the University of Regina Cougars in the fall of 2018.  She plans to pursue a Nursing degree.

 Cammy is an assistant-captain with the Wildcats this year. In 22 league games last year she had 5 goals, 7 assists for 12 points. Overall, in 49 games last season, Cammy scored 10 goals and added 14 assist for 24 points. So far this season, in 5 games Cammy has 2 goals. Overall, during her Wildcats career, Cammy has played in 111 games and recorded 19 goals and 27 assists.

From Coach Hodges of the Regina Cougars, “I think Cammy’s speed and intelligence will allow her to transition quickly to the Canada West level.  We work really hard to try to find great people for our program, and I feel that Cammy is a great fit for our program and our school and will represent the U of R with pride.”

The University of Regina is a member of the Canada West Conference of the CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sport). The University of Regina is public research university located in Regina, Saskatchewan. It is composed of 10 faculties and  one school that offer a variety of programs at the certificate, diploma, undergraduate and graduate degree levels. More than 12,000 students are currently enrolled. 


 

 

 


Wildcats vs Winnipeg Avros

The Wildcats were back in action at 2:45 PM today in Portage facing the Winnipeg Avros.  The two teams played to a scoreless opening period with the Avros outshooting Westman 9-5 But with Westman getting the majority of the quality chances.  The Avros took 2 minor penalties.  

In the 2nd period the Avros got onto the scoreboard at the 14:49 mark after a Wildcats giveaway led to a partial breakaway for the Avros player.  The Avros pushed hard for the remainder of the period and carried the play to the Wildcats.  Shots on goal in the period were 12-8 in favour of Winnipeg.  Each team took a minor penalty.  

The Wildcats returned to the ice in the 3rd period with a renewed sense of intensity.  Their hard work paid off when Kailey Thomspon scored at the 16:36 mark on a backhand to tie the game.  Calista Green received the lone assist.  The Wildcats would take the lead at the 9:04 mark on the powerplay when Gilly Gervin buried a low shot.  Paige Hubbard and Charlie Lindberg picked up the assists. Cammy Clyne put the game out of reach with 1:47 to play, assisted by Paige Hubbard and Aly O'Hara.

Shots on goal in the 3rd period were 7-6 in favour of the Avros.  The Avros took 2 of 3 minor penalties. 

Kaitie Slator picked up the win in net. 


Wildcats vs Interlake

The Westman Wildcats tied the Interlake Lightning 2-2 in the 8:00 AM game today despite outshooting the Lightning 35-9.  

Tori Williams led the way with a goal and an assist, while Paige Hubbard picked up the other goal.  Ashley Seekings and Calista Green each picked up an assist. Interlake took 5 of 7 penaltie.  Jenna Marshall was in net for the Wildcats.  


Wildcats vs Melville

The Westman Wildcats defeated the Melville Prairie Fire 3-0 in the opening game of the Central Plains Showcase today in Portage.  

After a scoreless opening period, the Wildcats opened the scoring at the 15:06 mark of the 2nd period as Haley Wickham buried a rebound into the open net. Jori Hansen-Young and Paige Hubbard each picked up an assist on the play.  

The Wildcats would open up a 2-0 lead as Alecia Simpson buried the first of her career from the slot at 18:1. Haley Wickham and Kaydence Shewchuk each pick up an assist.  Aly O'Hara would seal the deal with 4:10 remaining to make it 3-0. Ashley Spence picked up the lone assist on the goal. 

Kaitie Slator picked up the shutout victory in net.

The Wildcats play tomorrow at 8:15 AM vs Interlake and at 3:00 PM vs Winnipeg.

Confirmed schedule will be posted on the website closer to the date and email sent directly to all registered.

Each participant would receive
-       45 minutes of on ice instruction
-       45 minutes of Games/Dryland activities
-       a t-shirt
-       Meal and time to meet with hockey players and hockey talk
-       Free pass to a Westman Wildcats game that evening vs Eastman Selects at 7:30pm

Tori Williams commits to MRU

The Westman Wildcats would like to extend its congratulations to Tori Williams, a 4th year Wildcat from Souris, MB, who has committed to attend school at, and play hockey with, the Mount Royal University (MRU) Cougars in the fall of 2018.  

In 28 league games last year Tori had 5 goals, 12 assists for 17 points. Overall, in 57 games last season, Tori scored 16 goals and added 21 assists for 37 points. During her Wildcats career, she has played 175 games and recorded 60 points. 

From MRU coach, Scott Rivett, “We feel Tori is going to have the ability to step into our line up and contribute right away. She is tremendous kid who is a dynamic skater and likes to join the attack which will fit into our style of play on the big ice. She sees the ice well and has the ability to move pucks out of her zone with ease. We are excited to welcome Tori to our program.” 

Mount Royal University is a member of the Canada West Conference of the CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sport). It offers 13 Bachelor’s degree programs and has approximately 12,000 full and part time students. At Mount Royal you are not just another number. Instead, your professors and fellow students will know your name. You can be yourself.
