Wildcats vs Central Plains

The Wildcats dropped a hard fought game, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon in Portage vs the Central Plains Capitals.

The Caps got on the board first with a high knuckleball shot that was deflected, then eluded the Wildcats goaltender and hit the crossbar before dropping into the net. The Wildcats quickly responded with Kenzie Robinson scoring on the powerplay, assisted by Ashton Bell.

In the 2nd period, the Caps took full advantage of a 4 minute powerplay, scoring two goals to take the lead 3-1. Once again, the Wildcats quickly scored on a powerplay of their own with Robinson netting her second goal of the game with Bell receiving the assist again.

The Wildcats had a number of great scoring chances to tie the game up over the rest of the 2nd and 3rd period but were unable to beat the Caps goalie.

Jenna Marshall suffered the loss in net despite playing very well.

 

 


Wildcats vs Interlake

The Wildcats defeated Interlake 13-0 in Morden tonight. 

Ashton Bell led the way with 4 goals. Jaedon Cooke had 2. Ganske, O'Hara, Meek, Crowe, Vallotton, Robinson, Roach each had singles. Kaitie Slator picked up the shutout. Handle had 3 assists.

The Wildcats travel to Portage tomorrow to face Central Plains. Game time is 1:15 PM.

Wildcats vs Yellowhead

The Wildcats fell 4-3 in a shootout today in Shoal Lake versus Yellowhead.

 
The Chiefs got out to an early one goal lead on the powerplay and carried the play for the two thirds of the period.  Jaedon Cooke got the Wildcats on the board on the powerplay as she buried a rebound from an Ashton Bell shot with 2:35 remaining in the period. Bell and Ganske picked up the assists. Kenzie Robinson put the Wildcats ahead on the powerplay with 10 seconds remaining, unassisted. 
 
Yellowhead took 3 penalties to Westman's 2.  Shots were 9-3 in favour of Yellowhead.
 
In the 2nd period, the Wildcats stretched the lead to 3-1 as Haley Wickham buried a rebound, assisted by Jaedon Cooke and Brianna Williams.  Yellowhead made it a 1 goal game late in the period.  
 
Each team took a minor penalty.  The Wildcats outshot Yellowhead 6-3.
 
The Wildcats played a solid 3rd period until Yellowhead scored the tying goal with a minute to play as a deflected shot hit the post and was subsequently batted into the net.
 
Yellowhead took 2 penalties to Westman's 1. Shots in the period were 6-1 in favour of Yellowhead.  
 
Overtime solved nothing.  
 
Yellowhead scored 2 goals in the shootout to Westman's 1.

Wildcats vs Pembina Valley

The Westman Wildcats suffered their first regulation loss of the season at home on Friday night as the were defeated 3-1 by the Pembina Valley Hawks.

The 1st period was a very tight checking affair.  Westman got on the board first on the power play as Andrea Sanderson deposited a rebound into the back of the net with 6 minutes remaining in the period with the assists going to Mackenzie Roach and Mckenzie Meek. 

The Wildcats took 2 of 3 penalties in the period.

Shots on goal in the period were 9-8 Westman.

A poor start to the 2nd period was the difference in the game. The Hawks tied the game 30 seconds into the period while on the power play during a goal mouth scramble.  They would take the lead 2 minutes later on a broken play in the slot.  The Wildcats recovered and managed to sustain some strong pressure in the offensive zone but were unable to tie the game.

Pembina Valley took both penalties in the period and outshot Westman 11-8.

In the 3rd period the Wildcats pushed again for the equalizer but were unable to do so.  The Hawks scored an insurance marker halfway through the period off a deflection to make it 3-1. Each team took a minor penalty.  Westman outshot PV 8-4 in the frame.

Jenna Marshall suffered the loss in net for the Wildcats.


Wildcats vs Interlake

Ashton Bell scored three goals to lead the Westman Wildcats to a 13-1 victory over Interlake on Sunday. Katie Crowe and Kenzie Robinson and Haley Wickham each had two goals and an assist.  Jessica Walker and Brianna Williams each had a goal and an assist. , Aly O'Hara and Tori Williams each had singles.  Camryn Clyne had three assists while Paige Hubbard had two.  Andrea Sanderson, Shae Vallotton, Courtney Ganske, Ashley Seekings and Mackenzie Roach each had an assist.

Westman had 41 shots to Interlake's 6.  Kaitlyn Slator picked up the win in net.


Wildcats vs Central Plains

The Wildcats were defeated 3-2 in a shootout tonight in Hartney.

The 1st period was scoreless as Central Plains outshot Westman 5-4 and Westman hit two posts in the period.  Westman had two penalties in the period to Central Plains one.

The game opened up in the 2nd period.  Central Plains got on the board first when a puck went off a linesman which led to a breakaway goal.  They stretched the lead to 2-0 on a rebound goal when a point shot deflected off a Westman player and changed direction causing the goaltender difficulty.  Westman pushed back hard and cut the lead in half as Courtney Ganske scored on the powerplay with a point shot, with the assists going to Ashton Bell and Kenzie Robinson.  The Wildcats would tie the game four minutes later when McKenzie Meek scored on a deke in tight, with the assists going to Kenzie Robinson and Ashton Bell. The period would end 2-2.  Westman outshot the Capitals 7-3 in the period.  Westman took two minor penalties and Central Plains took one.  

In the 3rd period the Wildcats carried the play and had a number of quality opportunities to take the lead, including a number of good chances on the powerplay but the game remained tied.  Westman outshot the Capitals 12-4.  Central Plains took two minor penalties.

Off to Overtime.  The Wildcats pushed for the victory on the opening shift and carried the play but were called for a slashing penalty which led to a 4 on 3 powerplay for Central Plains.  The Wildcats managed to kill it off and the overtime solved nothing.  Central Plains outshot Westman 4-1 in the extra frame.

The game would be settled in a Shootout as Central Plains outscored Westman 2-1.

Final Shots on net were 24-16 in favour of Westman.  Jenna Marshall suffered the loss in net.

The Wildcats travel to Warren on Sunday to play Interlake.
