Wildcats Capture Silver At Saskatoon Comets AAA Classic
The Westman Wildcats Female Midget team brought home the silver from the Saskatoon Comets AAA Annual Classic Midget female tournament this past weekend.
This annual tournament brings in 12 of the top female midget programs from BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
The Cats played there first game on Friday against the Parkland Panthers and while out shooting their opponents 54-13 had to fight for a 2-1 win.
In their second match of the day Westman played the Weyburn Wings and again had a hard fought battle coming out on top 3-2 and winning their pool.
Saturday had the Wildcats in the semi-finals against the hometown Saskatoon Comets. After two scoreless periods the Cats were able to break away in the third and get themselves in the finals with a 4-1 win.
The Westman squad found themselves in the finals against the powerful Balmoral Hall Blazers. Westman found themselves with a depleted bench due to some injuries sustained throughout the tournament and were able to hang with the Blazers for the first half of the game before Balmoral was able to put away the win.
The Wildcats will prepare now to head south to play the USA reigning national champion Shattuck St Mary's program for a three game series this weekend.

Westman Wildcats Shut Out Rangers In 2 Game Series
The Westman Wildcats Female Hockey team blanked the Winnipeg Rangers in both of their two game series in Hartney on the weekend.
In game one on Saturday night in Hartney in front of a large hometown crowd the host Wildcats came out fast and took it to the Rangers from the drop of the puck.
Hometown favorite Erin Morrison scored twice in the first to give the Cats a 2-0 lead after one.
The Westman squad continued to take it to the Winnipeg league leading Rangers in the second potting two more, the first by Brandon's Amy Lee and the second by Melita's Sara Harmon to end the second 4-0.
The two teams blanked the third giving the Cats goaltending duel of Deloraine's Lacey Adams and Brandon's Kim Jory the shutout.
Game two of this series was played Sunday at noon at the Hartney arena, again in front of a good hometown crowd.
The Wildcats again came out strong firing three first period goals, Brandon's Amy VanBuskirk, Virden's Val Stephenson and Brandon's Sara Baker, notched markers.
The Cats scored two more in the second and third from Morrison and Baker while continuing to shut down the Rangers offence, to finish the game with a 5-0 win.
The Westman team is off to Saskatoon next weekend to play in the Annual Saskatoon Comets AAA tournament before heading down to play the US National Champions Shattuck St. Mary's the first weekend of February. Jan 13, 2008, 8:42 am

Westman beat Parkland 8-1 in the morning game before beating the Eastman squad 9-0 in the evening game.

WILDCATS HOST EASTMAN AND PARKLAND
Westman will host both Eastman and Parkland on Saturday Jan. 12th at the Hartney arena in a 3 game round robin series.
Westman will battle Parkland at 11:00am, at 2:00; Parkland and Eastman will face off followed by a 5:00 match between the Host club and Eastman.
Parkland plays in the RMFHL and Eastman participates in the Winnipeg AA Female Midget league and Westman has been doing an exhibition schedule with elite level tournaments.
This round robin will give each program a different perspective of where they are sitting at this part of the season.

Westman Wildcats Complete First Half Of Season
The Westman Wildcats Female Midget Team completed their first half of the Season at the Calgary International Mac's Invitational tournament with a 2-2 record.
This being the inaugural year for Westman having a regional Female Midget program, the team gained allot of experience and laid a good legacy for years to come at the first large tournaments these young ladies attended.
The season kicked off with their home tournament were Westman beat Regina, Eastman and Yellowhead in the round robin before losing the final to Balmoral Hall, Canada's top female prep team.
Westman's first road tournament was at the Minnesota Thoroughbreds Annual Thanksgiving Tournament were the Cats faced the host team, Anchorage Alaska, San Jose California and Sault Ste. Marie going 2-2 in the process.
The Wildcats started December off attending the Notre Dame Hounds Annual Showcase with 16 other Female Midget Teams from across the country. The Cats squared off against South Island from Victoria, Okitoks, Regina, Prince Albert as well as the host Hounds gaining a 3-2 record in this tournament.
The Westman squad finished off the year at The Mac's in Calgary at Christmas. The Wildcats faced Vancouver, Calgary, Red Deer and Melville just missing the playoffs.
The Westman Wildcats have proven that these rural hockey players are as good as any of the North American programs around. Many of the senior players have garnered attention from Colleges in Canada as well as the US with over 20 different colleges contacting the program about players since first taking the ice in September.
The Wildcats have also played exhibition games in the first half of the season against teams from the Saskatchewan AAA league, Winnipeg AA league and other Manitoba regional teams.
After 22 games the Wildcats have a record of 15-7 with 105 goals for and 48 goals against.
The Wildcats open up the second half of their season at home with Eastman and Parkland visiting Hartney on Saturday 12 th and Winnipeg Rangers coming out for a double header on the 19th and 20th.
Westman will attend the Saskatoon Comets Showcase, Eastman Selects Tournament and have a series with Shattuck's St Mary's in Faribault, Mn before hosting the Provincial Female Midget Championship at the end of February. Jan 1, 2008, 1:39 pm Westman Wildcats travelled to Calgary over the Holidays to play in The Mac's International Midget Tournament.
Boxing Day saw the Westman Squad up against the Calgary Chaos and the Cats skated away with a 3-1 win.
On the 27th the Cats were facing off against the Vancouver Fussion and beat their Pacific oponents 4-0
The Wildcats than dropped there next 2 games 5-1 to the Red Deer Sutter Chiefs and 3-2 to Prarie Fire.
The Wildcats finished just out of the playoffs.
The Cats next action is at home in Hartney on Feb 12th against Parkland and Eastman. Dec 19, 2007, 9:03 am The Westman Wildcats are opening up their optional Dec 23rd practice to all former "Cats".
With so many Alumni home for the Xmas wishing to keep "on the blades" , the Cats are inviting all out for a 11:00am skate in Hartney.
This will be Westmans final skate before heading off to Calgary and The Mac's International Midget Hockey Tournament.
With former players home from their College teams in Wisconsin, Alberta, Saskatchewan , Maine and Minnesota it should prove to be a fun skate.

Westman went up to play in an exhibition series on Saturday and came away with 2 convincing victories.
The Cats first action saw them up against the host Parkland Panthers. The Wildcats beat their northern hosts by an 8-0 score and distributed the scoring around the roster.
The Wildcats second game of the day was against Stonewall and again the Cats owned every part of the game by downing the Interlake club 12-0.
With both Adams and Jory sharing two shutouts and the scoring been spread throughout the team the Cats hope this have them ready to go West over Christmas to compete in the Mac's International in Calgary. |
