Wildcats Xmas Skate Dec 23rd

The Westman Wildcats are opening up their optional Dec 23rd practice to all former "Cats".
 
With so many Alumni home for the Xmas wishing to keep "on the blades" , the Cats are inviting all out for a 11:00am skate in Hartney.
 
This will be Westmans final skate before heading off to Calgary and The Mac's International Midget Hockey Tournament.
 
With former players home from their College teams in Wisconsin, Alberta, Saskatchewan , Maine and Minnesota it should prove to be a fun skate.

Wildcats Roar Through Parkland

 

 

Westman went up to play in an exhibition series on Saturday and came away with 2 convincing victories.

 

The Cats first action saw them up against the host Parkland Panthers. The Wildcats beat their northern hosts by an 8-0 score and distributed the scoring around the roster.

 

The Wildcats second game of the day was against Stonewall and again the Cats owned every part of the game by downing the Interlake club 12-0.

 

With both Adams and Jory sharing two shutouts and the scoring been spread throughout the team the Cats hope this have them ready to go West over Christmas to compete in the Mac's International in Calgary.

2007 MAC's AAA MIDGET HOCKEY TOURNAMENT
"Celebrating 30 Years"
 

Calgary , Alberta, ( December 12, 2007) â€" The Mac's Tournament Committee today kicks off another Tournament with the announcement of the participants for the 30th Anniversary Edition of the Mac's Tournament which includes an expanded Female Division.

 

“We are pleased today to begin this year's Mac's Tournament, Celebrating 30 Years, with the announcement of the participants for the 2007 Mac's Tournament. When this tournament began in 1978, people wanted to bring the best competition to the city and play a leadership role in advancing midget hockey. We believe that our Recruitment Team has assembled a tremendous group of teams from around the world to participate in this year's Tournament that will provide excellent competition as well as entertainment for the many fans of midget hockey” said Neil Robertson, Mac's Committee Chairman. “We continue to recruit the top midget-aged teams that meet the Hockey Canada age requirements which provides our Calgary and area based teams a barometer for their level of play”.

 

The 30th annual Mac's Tournament will be held in Calgary from December 26, 2007 to January 1, 2008 at the Max Bell Centre, Father David Bauer and Centennial Arenas , with the Championship Games taking place at the Pengrowth Saddledome. The Tournament Committee is pleased to announce that w ith the completion of construction at the Max Bell Centre, the Tournament will utilize both ice surfaces by moving the expanded Female Division games into Max Bell #2.

The Mac's Tournament is known worldwide as the best hockey tournament for midget-aged hockey players and this year's Tournament will be no exception,” said Ron Thompson, Western Canada Marketing Manager for Mac's Convenience Stores. “We look forward to the upcoming Tournament.”

 

The Tournament will again feature 25 of the top male midget teams from across North America and Europe placed in 5 Divisions. The female division has been expanded to 15 teams, which have been placed in 3 Divisions.   The winner of each pool will be joined in the playoffs by three male and one female wildcard teams.

Wildcats Compete Well At Hounds Showcase Weekend

Westman Wildcats return home from the Notre Dame Hounds North America Showcase weekend with a 3 and 2 record.

 

This 16 team Invitational Showcase have many of the top AAA Female Midget programs participating.

 

Thursday night the Wildcats started the tournament off against the defending Western Canadian Champions the Notre Dame Hounds. The Wildcats started off a little slow and had to play themselves out of a hole. Once the Cats got their legs they gave the Hounds a great game losing 6-4.

 

Friday saw the Wildcats playing the South Island Breakers. This proved to be a good fast paced game with the Westman team earning a 5-3 win over the BC team.

 

The Cats second game Friday against Okotoks was a rough hard fought game with the Cats coming up a bit short 3-2.

 

Saturday the Westman crew was pitted against Regina and played a good solid game handed their Saskatchewan foes a 4-1 loss.

 

The skills competition on Saturday night had the Westman Shooting-goalie tandems coming in 2nd in a 16-team pool, while the accuracy shooting and the speed skating acquitted themselves quit nicely.

 

On Sunday Westman was up against the Prince Albert Bears who had only had one defeat this season coming into this weekend. The Cats played their smartest game of the season and handed the PA squad a 5-1 drubbing.

 

The Wildcats will play a couple of exhibition games this weekend before heading out to play in the International Mac's Invitational Midget Tournament over Xmas in Calgary.


Wildcats Go .500 In Thoroughbreds Tournament

The Westman Wildcats returned from the Minnesota Thoroughbreds Tournament with a 2 and 2 record.
 
Westman opened the tournament on Friday against the host Minnesota Thoroughbreds and  lost 5-0 in a tough well played game.
 
The Wildcats second game saw them up against the Anchorage Northstars. The Cats played a great game and skated away with a 3-0 win.
 
The Wildcats second game on Saturday was against the San Jose Sharks. In an exciting game the Westman squad came up a little short in a 3-2 loss.
 
The Cats were in a consolation game on Sunday against Sault Ste. Marie and took it to their opposition with a convincing 7-1 win.
 
The Westman team finished in the top third of this 16 team North American Tournament and gained alot of experience for their next big tournament, The Notre Dame Hounds Showcase Tournament in early December.

Wildcats Beat Rangers

The Westman Wildcats travelled to Winnipeg on Sunday and battled the APHA Rangers of the Winnipeg AA Female Midget league.
 
The Wildcats came out firing in the first and built a three one lead on a pair of markers by Jen Durnin and goal from Laura Williams from Brit Phillips.
 
There was no scoring in the second with the Cats scoring the loan goal in the third with Phillips scoring from Amy Lee.
 
Cat Paws: Wildcats took 32 shots while Cat goalies turned aside 12, Lacey Adams stopped 6 of 7 shots while Kim Jory blocked all 5 directed at her.
The Cats took 3 of 7 minors handed out. The Cats next action is In St Paul next weekend at the Thuroughobred Tourny.

Wildcats to Travel to USA to Play Minot State University

The Westman Wildcats are travelling to North Dakota on Nov 11th to play Minot State University Beavers in a double header.
 
The Beavers compete in the ACHA DII division and will be a good test for both programs. http://www.achahockey.org/
 
The Beavers feature a number of Manitoban and Saskatchewan players in there lineup.
 
The Wildcats will be picking up one more exhibition game on Sunday Nov 18th before heading back to the US to play in the Minnesota Thoroughbreds Tournament in St Paul the following weekend.
