5 Westman Wildcats Help Team Manitoba Bring Home Bronze

 

5 members of the Westman Wildcats Regional Female Midget Hockey team were important in helping Team Manitoba bring home a bronze medal at Hockey Canada's U18 National Championships in Napanee ON Nov 5th-9th.l  

Team Manitoba Captain Brittany Philips, Lauder, Mb. was a strong leader throughout the tournament and was named game star in Manitoba's game vs. BC.

Amy Lee, Brandon, was put in many roles on the weekend. She was a leader on her line and was the main penalty killer for Team Manitoba.

Tara Lacquette, Mallard, MB, was the starting goalie for Team Manitoba and started in four of the five games backstopping Manitoba to the Bronze Medal for the second straight year.

Brandi Pollock, Virden, played both forward and defence in the tournament killing penalties from both positions.

Brigette Lacquette, Mallard, MB. controlled the blue line for Manitoba, playing both power play, and penalty killing. Briggette was named game star against Quebec and was named Top Defenseman of the Nationals as well.

Wildcats Go 1-2 In Three Game Stretch

 

The Westman Wildcats have played three games in the last two weeks putting up a 2 and 1 record.

On Nov 1 the Wildcats travelled to Winnipeg to play the Balmoral Hall Blazers and came out on the short end of a 2-1 game.

Sunday Nov 2 saw the Cats playing the Winnipeg Titans and came away with a convincing 6-0 win .

On Nov 7th the team travelled to Esterhazy to play Melville Prairie Fire and with a short bench battled to a 3-1 loss.

The Cats return to action Sunday Nov 16th   with a return visit to Winnipeg to play Balmoral Hall.

The following weekend sees the Cats host the Swift Current Wildcats in Hartney for a double header weekend.

Five Westman Wildcats Off to Nationals

 

Five members of the Westman Wildcats  Female Midget Hockey Team are off to Napanee, ON this week to play with Team Manitoba at Hockey Canada's U18 Women's National Championships.

Forwards, Brittany Phillips (Lauder), Amy Lee (Brandon) and Brandi Pollock (Virden) are joined by Defenseman, Brigette Lacquette (Mallard) and Goaltender Tara Lacquette (Mallard), in heading to Nationals Nov 5th-9th.

These five teammates will try to improve on Team Manitoba's Bronze Medal performance at last year's nationals.

Team Manitoba is in a pool with BC, Quebec and Alberta. The team will play each team in their pool and hope to be in the Medal round on the weekend.

Phillips has been named Captain of Team Manitoba. Lee, Pollock and Terra Lacquette and Phillips are veterans of last year's team in Kitchener. Brigette Lacquette is playing her first stint with the team.

Wildcats Split Games on Weekend

 

The Westman Wildcats  female Midget team split their two games this weekend.

On Friday the Wildcats travelled to Rosenort to play the USA National Champions Shattuck St Mary's from Faribault, Mn.

The Cats soon learned that the National Champions were quite a handful as they have a potent power play going 4 for 8 on the man advantage and giving the Wildcats their first loss of the season 8-2.

Saturday had the Wildcats back in the friendly confines of the Hartney arena playing the Weyburn Penta Gold Wings. The Cats continued their dominance over their Saskatchewan rival winning 3-0.

The Westman squad travel to Winnipeg next weekend for games against the Balmoral Hall Blazers and the Winnipeg Titans.

Wildcats Beat St Vital Twice—Tie Melville

 

The Westman Wildcats  Female Midget Team had their home opener in Hartney on Friday and beat St Vital Vics 6-1 in front of a great home crowd.

Saturday saw the Wildcats find the offence on Saturday's game with the Vics and come out with a convincing 11-0 victory.

Saturday night the Cats hosted the Melville Prairie Fire AAA team. This was a fast end to end game from the start. The Cats and Prairie Fire played to a 4-4 tie in front of another great crowd in Hartney.

Wildcats Win Ice Palace Cup in Grand Forks

 

The Westman Wildcats  female midget hockey team travelled down to Grand Forks for the Thanksgiving weekend and won the U19 AAA Ice Palace Cup in Grand Forks.

The Wildcats opened the Tournament against the Weyburn Penta Gold Wings and came back in this game to win 3-2.

Saturday had the Cats playing a pair of games. First up was the Assiniboine Park Rangers. The Cats clawed to a 1-0 win in this contest. The evening match saw the Westman club start to find their legs and offence as they beat the Regina Rebels 3-0.

Sunday's final had the Wildcats facing off with the Pembina Valley Hawks. The Cats skated away with the championship 3-0.

Five Westman Wildcats were named to the Tournament All-Star Team, Goalie Darby Peaslee, Defensemen, Brandi Pollock and Danni Maxwell and Forwards, Britt Phillips and JD Durnin.

The Wildcats next action is this weekend in Hartney when the will host the St Vital Vics and the Mellville Prarie Fire.

Westman Gets Sweep In Swift Current

 

The Westman Wildcats  Female Midget team travelled to Swift Current on the weekend for a two game series against their Saskatchewan namesakes, the Swift Current Diamond Energy Wildcats.

On Saturday the Westman squad fought out a hard 2-1 win. Britt Phillips scored both Westman markers. JD Durnin got the lone assist. Darby Peaslee stopped 24 of 25 shots fired her way for the win.

Sunday, Westman came out hard against their Sask AAA host and came away with a 4-2 win and completing the weekend sweep.

Durnin lit the lamp twice while Phillips and Amy Lee tallied singles.   Kelsie Scott picked up two assists while Kayleigh Chapman, Kiara DeKezel, Teal Crosson and Phillips all had single helpers.

Peaslee stopped 23 shots in the Westman goal for her and the team's fourth win of the season

Westman Starts Season with Pair of Wins

 

The Westman Wildcats female  midget hockey team took a swing through Melville and Weyburn on the weekend and came away with two wins.

The Cats started their 2008-09 campaign on the road in Melville against the Prairie Fire squad of the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA league on Saturday.  

The Wildcats graduated seven players from last season's team and along with some injuries to veteran players and college visits going on the Cats had a lot of new faces in the uniforms for the first weekend.

The Westman squad played consistent throughout the game, keeping it relatively simple but working hard. The Cats scored one in each period. Amy Lee, Laura Williams and Dani Maxwell lit the lamp for the Cats while Kiara Dekezel, Kelsie Scott and Williams tallied helpers.

Darby Peaslee went the distance between the pipes and gave up a lone goal on 18 shots to give Westman the 3-1 victory.

The Wildcats headed south on Sunday to battle the Weyburn Penta Gold Wings also of the Sask AAA loop. The Cats fought out another “W” 2-0 to complete the weekend sweep of their Sask neighbours.

Lee did all the scoring damage in this game, scoring twice with assists going to Maxwell, Scott and Dekezel. Peaslee stopped all 20 shots to record the shutout in the Cats net.

The Wildcats head to Swift Current next weekend for a double header against the Swift Current Wildcats Saturday and Sunday.
