Wildcats Win Bronze at Notre Dame Hounds Showcase Tournament
The Westman Wildcats Regional Female Midget Team claimed bronze at the 16 team Notre Dame Hounds Annual Showcase Tournament over the weekend.
The Wildcats first action was on Thursday afternoon against Melville AAA Prairie Fire. The Cats came out strong and hard and were up 7-1 after one period. The Westman squad finished up the game 10-1 with Britt Phillips, JD Durnin and Brigette Lacquette each scoring a pair.
The second game in their pool brought the Wildcats up against the AAA Red Deer Chiefs. The Cats took this game 5-1 with Meg Bailey leading the way with a pair of goals.
The Westman squad's second action Friday had them against the AAA Alberta North Division leading Edmonton Thunder. The Cats really found their scoring touch for this game, taking the game 11-2. Phillips led the scoring netting the hat trick.
The Cats won their pool with a 3-0 record and were off to the semis against the Saskatchewan AAA league leading Swift Current Wildcats. This was by far the most exciting game of the entire tournament with the two teams locked at two after regulation. A ten minute sudden death solved nothing and the two teams were off to the shoot-out. The teams were still tied after one round of shooting. The Swift Current team was able to defeat the Manitoba namesakes in the second round sending Westman to the Bronze game.
Sunday had the Westman club taking on the AAA Prince Albert Bears in the third place game. The Cats outplayed their opponents in all three frames and secured the win 4-1. Brigette Lacquette notched two in the win.
The Wildcats next action is Sunday December 14th in Hartney with the Winnipeg Titans in town for a two o'clock start.
