Wildcats Win One, Tie Two on Saskatchewan Road Trip

The Westman Wildcats Regional Female Midget Team won their opening game on the road and knotted a pair this past weekend.

The Wildcats opened their season with a game against the Melville Prairie Fire AAA in Whitewood on Friday night

The Wildcats won this match by a 4-0 score. Meg Bailey of Oak Lake had the hat trick for Westman while Kiara Dekezel of Deloraine had the other marker.

Darby Peaslee of Souris got the shutout in the Westman net stopping all 22 shots that she faced.

The Cats travelled to Wilcox for a pair on Saturday and Sunday. The two games against the Notre Dame Hounds proved nothing as both games ended in a tied 2-2 score.

On Saturday Karissa Kirkup from Virden and Dekezel found the back of the net while on Sunday the scoring was from Bailey and Dekezel.

The Wildcats travel to Winnipeg this weekend for three games. The Wildcats will face the Eastman Selects and then play the Balmoral Hall Blazers for a pair.

Westman Wildcats Name Captains

 

The Westman Wildcats have named their captains for the 2009-2010 season.

Senior, Brandi Pollock, from Virden will wear the “C” for this season. Pollock will bring her experience she has gained playing with both Team Manitoba and the Westman Wildcats for the past three seasons to the leadership position.

Kelsey Scott and Sarah Williams both seniors from Souris will be wearing “A’s” for the “Cats” this year.

Scott, also a Team Manitoba member and an accomplished multi-sport athlete will add leadership up front.

Williams, a stall worth on the blue line will bring poise and maturity to lead the backend.

All three of these players also are bringing the experience gained from playing in and winning last season’s National Championship.

Westman Wildcats Announce 2009-2010 Roster

 

The Westman Wildcats region Female midget hockey team have announced their 2009-2010 roster and are getting ready to begin the season.

The defending Esso Cup National Champions are returning 11 players from last season.

Second year player Darby Peaslee from Souris will be between the pipes for the Cats again this season. Returning to patrol the blue line are seniors, Sarah Williams and Sheryl Kaskiw from Souris and Brandi Pollock of Virden. Second year defenseman  Jaydene Somerville of Hartney will be a rookie veteran as she missed her first season after making the team with a season ending knee injury immediately  following last season’s tryouts.

Returning forwards are Seniors Kelsey Sanderson from Melita, Kelsie Scott from Souris, Megan Bailey from Oak Lake, and Teal Crosson from Alexander. While second year Midgets returnees are Kiara DeKezel from Deloraine and Kayleigh Chapman from Virden.

The team introduces five new comers to the program. On Forward from Virden is Karissa Kirkup, from Wawanesa, Elise Badiou, from Boissevain, Bailee Goodon and Amanda Coey from Brandon. Jessica Vallotton from Glenboro will be joining the veteran defence core.

The Wildcats have been on the ice twice a week as well as doing team dry land in preparation for their first action Sept, 25 th in Whitewood Saskatchewan against the Melville Prairie Fire AAA program. The Wildcats will than play a two game series with Notre Dame Hounds AAA team in Wilcox on Sept 26th and 27th.

Former Wildcat Kim Jory Lands Roster Spot With the Brock University Badgers

Former Westman Wildcat goaltender has landed a spot on the Brock University Badgers Womens hockey team.

Jory, from Brandon, played for the Wildcats during her senior year of high school, 2008-2009 season.

Last season Jory attended the University of Manitoba.

Brock University is a CIS team and competes in the OUA division.

Wildcats Preparing for Season Opening Weekend

 

The Westman Wildcats are starting regular practices this week getting ready for their season opening series with Melville Prairie Fire and a double header with the Notre Dame Hounds.

 

The Cats are travelling to Whitewood on September 25th for their first game of the season against the Melville Prairie Fire of the Sask AAA female Midget league. These two teams started the Wildcats season off last year as well.

The Wildcats will then travel to Wilcox to play the Notre Dame Hounds of the Sask AAA league as well.

These two programs will play a double header on the 26th and 27th in the Duncan McNeil arena in Wilcox.

The Cats will use these games as a kick off to very busy October schedule that will see the team travel to Winnipeg to play the Balmoral Hall Blazers, Grand Rapids, Mn to play in a Showcase weekend, host their own Annual Fall Classic tournament, and a trip to play the NCAA University Wisconsin Superior Yellow Jackets.

Wildcats Begin First Week With Busy Schedule

The Westman Wildcats 2009-2010 squad begins their season with a busy first week.

The Cats had a tough dryland session on Monday and follow it up with their first on ice as a team in Souris Wednesday night. They head right back to dryland training on Thursday in Hartney.

Many of the Cat's Seniors and 2nd years are heading south to Belcourt on Friday to write their ACT exams on Saturday.

On Sunday the Wildcats have a team building day in Hartney that will end with a team BBQ and College/University information session for both players and parents.

THE 2009-2010 WESTMAN WILDCATS START DRYLAND MONDAY

Sunday saw the conclusion of the best Wildcat camp ever. The players made the selectors job very difficult to narrow the field down to the final 16 players.

The level of play increased as the weekend went on with the final Black/White game being an extreemly spirited affair with every player making their case to be on this years squad.

The young talent pool in the region is a great indicator of a very competitive Wildcat team for years to come.

In the end the letters were given out and this years Wildcats had their first get together to do administrative duties and celebrate the start of the new season.

The hard work now begins with dryland Monday in Hartney and the first skate as a team on Wednesday in Souris.

Wildcat Camp Concludes Today With the Naming of the Team

The Westman Wildcat Camp has two days in the books and with todays Black/White game at 4:00, the players have only one last game to impress the selectors.

Friday and Saturday saw the hopefulls put through a series of on ice drills with each day completing with mini games.

Following the game today the team will be named with dryland beginning on Monday in Hartney.
