Oct 21, 2009, 1:45 pm Wildcats Travel to Wisconsin to Play NCAA UWS Yellowjackets this Weekend The Westman Wildcats are travelling to Wisconsin to play the NCAA University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets on Saturday. This will be the programs first competition against NCAA opponents. The Wildcats have competed against CIS teams in the past, the University of Saskatchewan Huskies and the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns. The Westman squad will stop and play the Minnesota Crunch in Grand Rapids both on the way down as well as on the way home. The Westman Wildcats Regional Midget Female Hockey team are hosting the Westman Annual Fall Classic Tournament this weekend in Hartney. Five teams will compete in a round robin play Friday and Saturday with playoffs on Sunday. Pembina Valley Hawks, Central Plains Capitals and the Eastman Selects from Manitoba along with the Warner Warriors Prep School from Southern Alberta will join the host Westman Wildcats in this Weekend Fall Classic. The tournament will begin Friday morning with round robin games at 10:00 a.m. with the Host Wildcats playing Central Plains and continue through to Saturday night. Sunday will see the playoff games with the finals slated for 2:00 p.m. Oct 12, 2009, 11:23 am Wildcats Go .500 at Grand Rapids Showcase The Westman Wildcats Regional Female Midget Hockey Team went 2-2 on the Thanksgiving Minnesota Crunch Showcase weekend in Grand Rapids. The Wildcats first action had them up against the Thunder Bay Queens and the Cats lost 6-2. Goal scores for the Cats were Virden’s Kayleigh Chapman and Souris’s Kelsie Scott. The Westman squad than had a tough match with the host Minnesota Crunch and came out on the back end of a 2-0 score. The Wildcats than found the win column against Traverse City with a 6-0 game. Megan Bailey of Oak Lake led the Cat attack with 3 goals and a pair of helpers. KK Kirkup of Virden, Sheryl Kaskiw of Souris and Brandi Pollock of Virden rounded out the Westman scoring. Darby Peaslee of Souris recorded the shutout in the Cats net. The final Wildcat game was against the Winnipeg Polar Ice and the Westman club finished the Showcase with a 4-1 win. Goal scorers in this match for the cats were Bailey, Chapman and scoring their first goals of the year Brandon’s Amanda Coey and Melita’s Kelsey Sanderson. The Wildcats next action will be this weekend in their own Westman Annual Fall Classic. This five team Tournament will feature the Eastman Selects, Central Plains, and Pembina Valley and from Alberta the Warner Warriors as well as the host Westman Wildcats. Oct 7, 2009, 5:41 am Wildcats to Compete in Minnesota Crunch Showcase Thanksgiving Weekend The Westman Wildcats regional female midget team will be travelling to Grand Rapids Minnesota to compete in the Minnesota Crunch Showcase this thanksgiving weekend. The Wildcats first action will be against the Thunder Bay Queens on Friday afternoon. The Cats will than battle the the Minnesota Crunch in the evening match on Friday. Saturday will see the Westman Squad complete the round robin part of the tournament against Traverse City, Michigan. The Showcase finals will conclude on Sunday. Oct 5, 2009, 7:42 am Wildcats Win, Lose and Tie on Weekend The Westman Wildcats regional female midget team went 1-1-1 on their east road trip this past weekend. The Wildcats started their weekend against the Eastman Selects with a 2-1 win. Brandi Pollock of Virden and Megan Bailey of Oak Lake did the scoring for Westman. The Wildcats than had a pair of games against the Balmoral Hall Blazers in Winnipeg. The first game saw the two teams battle to a 2-2 draw. Kelsie Scott of Souris and Bailey found the back of the net for the Cats. The second game had the home team, Balmoral Hall giving the Wildcats their first loss of the season with a 3-1 score. Kiara Dekezel of Deloraine scored the Wildcats lone marker. The Wildcats now get ready to head to Grand Rapids Minnesota to play in the Minnesota Crunch Showcase over the Thanksgiving weekend. Sep 28, 2009, 6:42 am Wildcats Win One, Tie Two on Saskatchewan Road Trip The Westman Wildcats Regional Female Midget Team won their opening game on the road and knotted a pair this past weekend. The Wildcats opened their season with a game against the Melville Prairie Fire AAA in Whitewood on Friday night The Wildcats won this match by a 4-0 score. Meg Bailey of Oak Lake had the hat trick for Westman while Kiara Dekezel of Deloraine had the other marker. Darby Peaslee of Souris got the shutout in the Westman net stopping all 22 shots that she faced. The Cats travelled to Wilcox for a pair on Saturday and Sunday. The two games against the Notre Dame Hounds proved nothing as both games ended in a tied 2-2 score. On Saturday Karissa Kirkup from Virden and Dekezel found the back of the net while on Sunday the scoring was from Bailey and Dekezel. The Wildcats travel to Winnipeg this weekend for three games. The Wildcats will face the Eastman Selects and then play the Balmoral Hall Blazers for a pair. |
