LACQUETTE ON SHORTLIST-LACQUETTE TO CENTRALIZE WITH TEAM CANADA FOR 2013-14 SEASON
May 6, 2013, 11:17 am

Brigette                     Brigettte

Former Westman Wildcat and current University of Minnesota Duluth player Brigette Lacquette has been chosen by Hockey Canada to come to Calgary on August 6 and train full time for the chance to make Team Canada for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Lacquette was one of four current or former Bulldog players named to Canada's National Women's Team centralization roster Thursday, along with UMD alumni Jocelyne Larcoque, Haley Irwin and Caroline Ouellette. One of 27 players that will be centralized, Lacquette, a sophomore from Mallard, Manitoba, was one of only five players chosen to join Canada that was not on the world championship roster from earlier this year. Brigette was part of the Esso Cup winning Wildcats in the 2008/2009 hockey season before going on to play for the Bulldogs. Brigette is the fourth player from the Wildcats organization who has been selected to try out for Team Canada along with former Wildcat star Brittany Phillips-Colgate University, Karissa Kirkup-University of Maine and Ashleigh Brykaliuk- University of Minnesota-Duluth.

The Westman Wildcats would like to wish Brigette good luck on trying to crack the Women’s National team.

Congratulations to Karissa Kirkup and Ashleigh Brykaliuk for being invited to attend Hockey Canada’s U22 strength and conditioning camp. Hockey Canada’s National Women’s Program is conducting the camp for U22 aged athletes in consideration for their program for the 2013-2014 season. The Wildcat organization would like to congratulate Karissa and Ashleigh for achieving their dreams and goals and maybe someday playing for the National Women’s team. Good luck and make us proud!

Since 1990, Canada’s National Women’s Team has been a power on the world stage, winning 10 world titles, three Olympic gold medals and 12 - 3 Nations/4 Nations Cups. Its success has helped women’s hockey registration numbers skyrocket in the last decade.
