May 3, 2017, 4:16 pm The Westman Wildcats would like to congratulate Jenna Marshall, Ashley Seekings, Cammy Clyne, Tori Williams, and Aly O'Hara on their invitation to Team Manitoba's Top 40 Camp to be held in Portage La Prairie May 11 to 14. Give it your all, ladies. Apr 2, 2017, 12:18 pm Game 2 of the Regional Championship went Saturday night in Prince Albertand the Wildcats came out flying. Cammy Clyne got things rolling with an early powerplay goal at the 15:19 mark to make it 1-0. Aly O'Hara and Tori Williams picked up the assists on the play. Josee Casavant would make it 2-0 just 35 seconds later as she shelved a shot off a 2 on 1. Andrea Sanderson and Shae Vallotton picked up the assists. The Bears would fight back however and score two goals in the last 8 minutes of the period to tie the game. Shots on goal in the period were 10-7 in favour of PA and they took the lone minor penalty. The Bears would take a 3-2 lead early in the 2nd period. The Wildcats would right the ship though and Ashton Bell would tie it up at the 14:53 mark with a high snap shot off the face off win by Sanderson to make it 3-3. Josee Casavant would score her second of the game at the 3:48 mark to give the Wildcats the lead. Bell had the lone assist on the play. Shots on goal in the period were 10-9 in favour of the Bears. The Wildcats took the lone penalty of the period.
In the 3rd the Wildcats would take a two goal lead at the 18:53 mark on the powerplay as Bell scored her 2nd of the game with a hard snap shot top shelf. Vallotton and Williams picked up the assists. They make it a 6-3 game at the 13:24 make as Haley Wickham finished off a feed from Bell and Meek. PA would respond with a goal off the rush at the 12:33 mark to make it 6-4. They would make it a 6-5 game with a seeing eye shot from the point at the 7:54 mark. A questionable penalty call put the Bears on the powerplay and they would tie it with 3:13 to play on a well placed shot. The comeback would be complete as they scored off a tip in with 2 minutes remaining. The Wildcats pushed to tie and would miss a glorious opportunity with 20 seconds remaining. Game over. Shots in the 3rd were 11-9 in favour of PA. Each team took a minor penalty.

Tough end to a great season. Apr 1, 2017, 9:22 am The Westman Wildcats took to the ice at the Art Hauser Arena in Prince Albert on Friday night to play the Prince Albert Northern Bears. The Wildcats got off to an early lead as Ashton Bell sniped a shot off the face off won by Andrea Sanderson to make it 1-0 at the 15:28 mark of the period. The Wildcats almost stretched the lead on the next shift as Sanderson missed just wide on a 2 on 1 chance. The two teams would settle into some back and forth play until Andrea Sanderson scored off the rush on the powerplay at the 5:43 marked, assisted by Jessica Walker and Josee Casavant, to make it 2-0. Shots on goal in the period were 7-7. The Bears took the lone minor penalty. In the 2nd period it was a different story as the Bears capitalized on some sloppy Wildcats play. They would score their first goal of the game at the 18:17 mark of the period as the Wildcats failed to clear the zone and allowed a girl to walk into the slot and bury a shot past the screened Wildcats netminder to make it 2-1. The Wildcats had a couple great chances to restore the two goal lead with a 2 on 1 chance and a powerplay opportunity that generated a number of great chances. It was the Bears, however, that would respond next tying the game up with 6:24 remaining as one of their players went hard to the net and slashed the covered puck loose from the Wildcats goaltender and a 2nd player chipped it into the net. The Wildcats would then take a penalty to send the Bears to the powerplay. The Bears would take the lead on another goal mouth scramble at the 4:19 mark. They would extend the lead to 4-2 on a broken coverage with 31 seconds remaining in the period. Shots on goal in the period were 19-9 in favour of the Bears. Each team took a minor penalty.
The Wildcats got off to a sluggish start in the 3rd period and it cost them as they gave up a goal at the 16:23 mark of the period to go down 5-2. Slowly but surely though the Wildcats managed to find their game again and began to put some solid shifts together. They would miss again on another 2 on 1 chance but would be rewarded with a powerplay goal from Josee Casavant as she tipped home a shot from Tori Williams at the 6:35 mark. Shae Vallotton picked up the 2nd assist. The Wildcats would continue to press almost stuffing one home on a wild goal mouth scramble. They kept at it and with 5:28 remaining, Aly O'Hara shelled a beauty top shelf as she drove off the half wall with Paige Hubbard picking up the lone assist. They kept pressing and had a couple more great chances but would give up the empty net goal with 20 seconds remaining. Shots on goal in the 3rd period were 12-11 in favour of PA. PA took the lone minor penalty.
Jenna Marshall suffered the loss in net. The two teams face off tonight in game 2 at 7:00 PM.
Mar 19, 2017, 6:10 pm Hannah Petrie scored the OT winner at the 17:57 mark of the 2nd overtime to lift the Pembina Valley Hawks to the MFMHL title. The Wildcats came out very strong in the opening period and generated numerous high quality scoring opportunities, including a breakaway chance by Ashton Bell that hit the post, against the Hawks but were unable to their goaltender, Halle Oswald. Each team had 8 shots on net and each team took 2 minor penalties. The Wildcats continued to pressure in the 2nd period and were finally rewarded as Ashton Bell scored on a breakaway with a quick snap shot that eluded the Hawks tender. The Wildcats outshot the Hawks 9-4 and the Hawks took 2 of 3 minor penalties. It was more of the same in the 3rd but Oswald continued to stand tall and make some incredible saves. Makenzie McCallum tied the game up on the powerplay midway through the 3rd period as the Wildcats defender blocked a shot from the point and the puck dropped right on the stick of the Hawks player who buried it into the back of the net. Final shots on net were 32-20 in favour of Westman. The Hawks took 5 of 9 minors. Kaitie Slator suffered the loss in net. Mar 18, 2017, 9:32 am The Westman Wildcats travelled to Morden for game two of the League Final on Friday night. The Hawks got the early lead at the 17:35 mark of the opening period as a point shot was re-directed on its way to the net and landed on the stick of another Hawk player to the side of the net who promptly deposited it into the open net to make it 1-0. The Wildcats dominated the remainder of the period, peppering the Hawks goalie with 13 shots, most of them of very high quality, but the Hawk netminder stood tall and preserved the 1 goal lead. Final shots in the period were 13-5 in favour of Westman. The Hawks took the lone minor penalty. The 2nd period was more balanced territorially as the Hawks defended their own net and made it more difficult for the Wildcats to get shots through to the net. Shots in the period were 6-4 in favour of Pembina Valley with the Wildcats taking the lone minor penalty. In the 3rd the Wildcats pushed hard to tie the game and were rewarded finally as Aly O'Hara's wrist shot from the slot beat the Hawks netminder at the 13:46 mark. Cammy Clyne and Paige Hubbard picked up assists on the play. The lead was shortlived, however, as the Hawks scored at 12:18 on another shot that was blocked by a Wildcats player and landed on the stick of another Hawks player who deposited it in the net. The Wildcats continued to push to tie the game and missed on a breakaway and were turned away a number of times. Shots on net were 8-5 in favour of Westman. The Hawks picked up the lone minor of the period. Final shots on net were 25-16 Westman. The Hawks took 2 of the 3 minor penalties in the game. Jenna Marshall suffered the loss in net. Game 3 goes Sunday at 2 PM in Hartney. Mar 15, 2017, 10:26 pm The Westman Wildcats were defeated 3-0 on home ice Wednesday night in Hartney and trail the best of 5 series 1-0. Two goals over a 4 minute span late in the 2nd period were the difference as the Hawks took a 2-0 lead into the 3rd period. The Wildcats began to push in the 3rd period but couldn't solve the Hawks goaltender. Pembina Valley would seal the victory with an empty netter. The Wildcats took 2 of 6 minor penalties. 1st period shots were 11-7 in favour of Westman. 2nd period shots were 13-4 in favour of Pembina Valley. 3rd period shots were 16-11 in favour of Westman.
