WESTMAN WILDCATS WIN SEMI-FINAL ROUND IN THREE STRAIGHT GAMES AGAINST WINNIPEG AVROS

WILDCATS MFMHL SEMI-FINAL GAME #3  Wednesday, March 13th @ Hartney Community Arena
WILDCATS 4   WINNIPEG AVROS 2

Period 1 At first puck drop, the Avros came out strong catching the Wildcats off guard. The Avros scored. Each team serving two penalties in the period. The Wildcats pressing on the powerplay. The period ended 1-0. Period 2 The Wildcats came out with momentum. It was game on. Strong aggressive play from both teams. The Wildcats with three quick goals, all within 6 minutes. The Avros with a powerplay goal. The Wildcats 1st goal came at the 15:10 mark. The crowd watched Melissa Hunt give a strong pass up to Ashleigh Brykaliuk, who showed her skill skating past the Avros defence to score. Courtney Ganske on defence, assisted. The Cats got the 2nd goal @ 9:58. Defence Gina Williams with a hard shot to the net and Karissa Haney was quick to tip it past the goalie. Jessica Vallotton got the assist. The next face off, the Wildcats moved the puck into the Avros zone, and with strong passing plays Karissa Haney would score 15 seconds later @ 9:43 for the 3rd goal. Haney's second of the game. Jessica Vallotton and Samantha Dyck assisted on the play. After forty minutes, the shots on goal were Wildcats 20 Avros 14. Score 3-2 for the Cats. Period 3 The intensity in the game increased. The Avros were playing to get the equalizer and more. Three of four penalties were served by the Wildcats. Playing five on five hockey, the Wildcats would get their 4th goal. Ashleigh Brykaliuk scored her second of the game, when she slid the puck under the Avros goalie after receiving a perfect pass from Amanda Coey. Courtney Ganske got her second assist of the game. Key saves from Kristen Campbell in the period with the Avros pressing. Game Shots on Goal: Wildcats 27 Avros 23.

WILDCATS MFMHL SEMI-FINAL GAME #2 Saturday, March 9th @ Keith Bodley Arena, Winnipeg.

WILDCATS 5   WINNIPEG AVROS 3

Both teams played a physical,hard fought game.The Wildcats were handed 10 penalties for a total 20 minutes and the Avros 3 penalties for 6 minutes.
PERIOD 1 Wildcats with a quick start, scored two goals. Samantha Dyck got the Wildcats 1st goal @ 18:36. The play started when Teagan Pringle wristed a hard shot on the Avros goalie and Dyck got the rebound. Less than two minutes later, Karissa Kirkup took a shot from the blue line and Jessica Vallotton next to the net redirected the puck to score on the powerplay. The Wildcats continued to have good scoring chances in the period. Five minutes remaining the Avros scored on a breakaway. PERIOD 2 The Wildcats served 5 of 7 penalties. They defended a 5 on 3 powerplay in the period. The Wildcats got a shorthanded goal. The Avros, one powerplay goal. The period saw aggressive play from both teams. The Wildcats pressuring on the Avros powerplay, the crowd saw Dyck with strong forechecking at the offensive blue line and skating hard towards the net to score a skilled top shelf shorthanded goal. Her Second Goal of the game.  The period ended 3-2 for the Wildcats. PERIOD 3 The physical play intensified. Wildcats served 3 of 3 penalties. The Cats had good passing plays with scoring opportunites in the period. The Avros pressing to add to the scoreboard. This period saw another quick start for the Wildcats. Three minutes in Ashleigh Brykaliuk scored the Cats 4th goal, after receiving a pass from Amanda Coey which started as a give and go play between them. The Cats would get a second even strength goal for the period. Karissa Kirkup scored with her hard slap shot from the top circle for her Second Goal of the game. Brykaliuk getting the assist on the play. Minutes before the period ended, the Avros got a second powerplay goal. Game Shots on Goal: Wildcats 28 Winnipeg Avros 43  Penalties: Wildcats 10 Avros 3   Kristen Campbell with 40 saves. Some key saves by Campbell on the penalty kills in the game.

WILDCATS MFMHL SEMI-FINAL GAME #1 Friday, March 8th @ Hartney Community Arena.

WILDCATS 5   WINNIPEG AVROS 1
The game was a Team Effort through all the Wildcat lineups. 
PERIOD 1 The Wildcats had the better scoring chances in the period. The Cats got on the scoreboard when Courtney Ganske saw Karissa Kirkup in the slot, Kirkup found open ice and wristed a shot past the Avros goalie with Amanda Coey providing traffic in front of the net. Wildcats served 3 out of 5 minor penalties in the period. PERIOD 2 The Wildcats would defend a 5 on 3 powerplay. The Wildcats took advantage of the the Avros lone penalty in the period, to score. The play started with Magwood getting the puck to Brykaliuk who fed Kirkup, for her second goal. With just over two minutes remaining, the Wildcats added a third goal. Ganske got a pass to Jaycee Magwood, who cut through and beat the Avros defence one on one....to back hand a top shelf goal. PERIOD 3 The Wildcats added two more goals and served the 3 of 3 minor penalties.The Avros powerplay goal was a shot from the point which was deflected top corner by Cockerill. Midway through the period, Brykaliuk got a poweplay goal receiving a good passing play from Kirkup. Three minutes later @ the 6:11 mark, Kirkup would add another to the scoreboard to finish off the night with a hat trick. 
Game Shots on Goal: Wildcats 35  Winnipeg Avros 28.    Kristen Campbell played solid in goal with 27 saves.


Kaitlyn Whaley Commits to the NAIT OOKS

Kaitlyn Whaley has committed to play for the NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) OOKS for the 2013-2014 hockey season. The college is located in Edmonton, Alberta. The OOKS play in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) and are having a banner year with just recently winning the ACAC championship outlasting Red Deer College in the championship final. Whaley hails from Douglas, Mb and maintains honour roll status at Elton Collegiate. Kaitlyn has been a solid and steady defenseman for the Wildcats in her 3 year midget career. She racked up 8 goals and added 35 assists in her time as a Wildcat. Kaitlyn attended the top 100 camp in each of the last two years in Hockey Manitoba’s Program of Excellence showing that she is truly a great defenseman. Kaitlyn plans on taking Dentistry Technician as she continues her studies at NAIT. The Wildcat organization would like to congratulate Kaitlyn and wish her good luck with her academic and athletic goals at NAIT and with the OOKS. 


Teagan Pringle Commits to the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers

Teagan Pringle has committed to play for the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers for the 2013-2014 season. The school is located in Charlottetown, PEI enrolling more than 4600 students. It is a 5 year University whose Panthers play in the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) division of the CIS. They finished in fourth place in the AUS this past year respectively.  Teagan hails from Glenboro, Manitoba where she is an honour roll student and volunteers her time to numerous activities in her spare time. Teagan has been a very hard working and consistent performer for the Wildcats in this her third year. To date she has scored 34 goals and has added 56 assists in her time with the Wildcats. Teagan has proven she is the ultimate team player as many of her teammates look up to her both on and off the ice. At UPEI, Teagan plans on taking Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology. The Wildcat organization would like to congratulate Teagan and wish her good luck with her academic and athletic goals in the CIS and as a Panther. 


Samantha Dyck commits to NAIT OOKS

Dyck Commits to the NAIT OOKS

Samantha Dyck has committed to play for the NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology) OOKS for the 2013-2014 hockey season. The college is located in Edmonton, Alberta. Dyck hails from Boissevain, Mb and maintains honour roll status at Boissevain Collegiate. Sam is a power forward who has been a go to player in her time with the Wildcats notching 42 goals and adding 41 assists. Sam attended the top 40 spring camp in Hockey Manitoba’s Program of Excellence in the spring of 2012 proving she is one of the best forwards in the province. Sam plans on studying to be a laboratory technician.  The Wildcat organization would like to congratulate Sam and wish her good luck with her academic and athletic goals at NAIT and as an OOK.

WILDCATS ADVANCE TO MFMHL SEMI-FINALS

WILDCATS WIN PLAYOFF ROUND OVER WINNIPEG ICE
Game #3  Friday, March 1st @ Hartney

WILDCATS 4   WINNIPEG ICE 0
The Wildcats fired 35 shots at the Ice goalie, who played well and came up with some key saves to deny the Wildcats adding to the scoreboard. The Winnipeg Ice playing hard for this third playoff game.
Period 1 Karissa Kirkup sunk the Cats first goal, unassisted at the 11:26 mark. Kirkup on a rush, skated past the Ice defence and with patience waited for the goalie to go down then netted it top shelf. The second Wildcats goal for the period was a shorthanded one, coming from Ashleigh Brykaliuk who used her speed and stick handling skills. Period 2 With the Wildcats serving 5 of 7 minor penalties over the twenty minutes, the team controlled the play and outshot the Ice on net. Brykaliuk would get her second shorthanded goal of the game, receiving a pass up from Kirkup. Period 3 Jaycee Magwood on the open side of the net, slid one past the Ice goalie for the Cats fourth goal of the game. Game shots on goal: Wildcats 35  Winnipeg Ice 18. Amber Tilbury with a couple of key saves for her shutout win.
