Wildcats Suffer First Loss of the Season
Sep 25, 2016, 5:51 pm

Two first period goals by Lloydminster were enough to propel them to a 2-1 victory over the Wildcats on Saturday afternoon in Portage.  The Wildcats pressed hard in the last half of the 3rd period and Paige Hubbard, assisted by Tori Williams and Ashton Bell brought the Wildcats to within 1 goal with 3:57 remaining.  But they were unable to tie the game despite two posts and a crossbar.

The Wildcats went 0 for 4 on the powerplay and killed off all 3 penalties they faced.  They outshot Lloydminster 38-25 in the game, including 17-6 in the 3rd period.  Kaitie Slator suffered the loss in net.

Wildcats Defeat Winnipeg Avros
Sep 24, 2016, 2:08 pm

Ashton Bell again led the way with two goals as the Westman Wildcats defeated the Winnipeg Avros 4-1 Saturday morning in Portage.

The Wildcats got off to a quick start as Bell scored an unassisted goal 50 seconds into the game.  Westman just missed on a number of chances throughout the period and the period ended 1-0. The Wildcats took the lone penalty in the period.

In the 2nd period the Wildcats struggled to find their game and found themselves hemmed in for a few long stretches but managed to keep the game 1-0. The Avros took the lone penalty in the period.

The Wildcats found their game again in the 3rd by getting their forecheck back to where it was in the opening frame. They were rewarded midway through the period when Tori Williams scored off a slap shot from the half wall.  Ashton Bell followed that up with a beautiful breakaway goal less than a minute later off a great pass from Shae Vallotton that sprung her in all alone.  The Avros made it 3-1 with just over 4 minutes remaining in the period as their shot deflected off a Wildcats defender into the net.  The Wildcats would regain the 3 goal lead with under 1 minute to play as Ashton Bell set up Ali O'Hara for a wide open net.

Jenna Marshall picked up the win in net stopping 16 shots.
