Wildcats Finish off Weekend Sweep of Pembina Valley
Oct 22, 2017, 6:22 pm

The Westman Wildcats hosted the Pembina Valley Hawks on Sunday afternoon in Hartney.  This would be the two teams 3rd game against each other in a week with each team scoring a 1 goal victory.

The Wildcats got on the board first as Shaylee Scraba scored on a beauty onetimer off a pass from Tori Williams on the powerplay at the 7:44 mark of the opening period.  Ashley Seekings also picked up an assist on the play.  The period would end 1-0.  The Wildcats outshot PV 10-7 in the period and took 2 of 3 minor penalties.

The Wildcats would stretch their lead to 2-0 when Jori Hansen-Young directed a quick shot on net that hit a skate and found its way to the corner of the net, eluding a screened PV goaltender.  Aly O'Hara and Charly Lindberg each picked up an assist.  The Hawks would score on the powerplay to make it a 2-1 game.  The Hawks would make a big push to tie the game over the next few minutes but the Wildcats would make it a 2 goal game again at 9:34 on the powerplay when Cammy Clyne buried a rebound into the open net off a shot from Tori Williams.  Ashley Seekings again picked up an assist on the goal.  The period would end 3-1.  The Hawks outshot the Wildcats 16-10.  Each team picked up two minor penalties.

In the 3rd period the Wildcats regained their composure and would eventually stretch the lead to 4-1 at the 11:27 mark as Cammy Clyne would score her 2nd goal of the game, assisted by Paige Hubbard.  The Hawks would not roll over and quit though and scored on the next shift to make it 4-2 when a Wildcats defender lost the puck and gave up the scoring play.  The Hawks would make it a 4-3 game with just under 7 minutes to play off a goal mouth scramble as the Wildcats goaltender could not find the puck to cover.  The Wildcats called a timeout to settle their team a bit and they were able to regain their composure.  With 43 seconds remaining, Shaylee Scraba scored into the empty net  to make it 5-3 with assists going to Aly O'Hara and Charly Lindberg.  They would make it 6-3 with 23 seconds remaining as Haley Wickham beat Oswald on the powerplay.  Cammy Clyne and Paige Hubbarb picked up the assists on the play.  Shots on goal in the 3rd period were 10-9 in favor of PV. PV also took the lone minor penalty.

Jenna Marshall picked up her second win of the weekend.

Wildcats Win in OT vs Eastman
Oct 8, 2017, 5:38 pm

The Westman Wildcats hosted the Eastman Selects in the 2nd game of their weekend series this afternoon in Hartney.  The two teams came out of the gate with tremendous pace and they both pushed to score the opening goal.  The Wildcats would lose a little momentum as they took 3 minor penalties which resulted in them playing on their heels a bit as they struggled to regain their composure.  The period would end 0-0.  The Wildcats outshot Eastman 6-4.

In the 2nd period, the Wildcats would again get into penalty trouble, allowing the Selects to take over the game territorially.  Eastman would get on the board at the 10:36 mark of the period to make it 1-0.  They would stretch the lead the 2-0 with 4:15 remaining in the period on the powerplay.  The period would end 2-0 for Eastman.  The Wildcats took 4 of 6 minor penalties. Eastman outshot the Wildcats 10-8 in the period.

The Wildcats came out in the 3rd period having to kill another minor penalty.  They finally got on the board at the 14:57 mark as Aly O'Hara scored off a goal mouth scramble on the powerplay. Cammy Clyne picked up the lone assist.  The Selects would respond with a goal of their own 26 seconds later to restore the 2 goal lead. A goaltender change by the Wildcats sparked some increased desperation as they continued to fight to generate chances.  They were finally rewarded with 5:51 remaining as a Tori Williams shot found its way into the net.  Paige Hubbard would tie it up at the 2:32 mark with a great individual effort on a wraparound to make it 3-3.  The Wildcats picked up a late penalty to make things interesting but some good penalty kill work killed off the remaining time in regulation.  Each team picked up a minor penalty in the 3rd period and the Wildcats outshot Eastman 12-4.

Cue overtime.  The Wildcats would have to kill off the remainder of the penalty but actually controlled the play on the 4 on 3 advantage.  At the end of the kill, Tori Williams would pick up the puck in the neutral zone and turn up ice, split the Eastman defense and bury a shot to the top blocker side to lead the Wildcats to the comeback victory.

The Wildcats head on the road next weekend with games against Pembina Valley and Interlake.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.

Hartney Home Opener on Jamboree Day - Wildcats vs Eastman
Oct 7, 2017, 11:04 pm

After a full day of hosting over 50 young female players from the Westman area the Westman Wildcats hosted the Eastman Selects Saturday night in Hartney and skated to a 4-2 victory.  The Wildcats also wore their Pink Cancer Care Jerseys tonight to support Cancer Care month.

Aly O'Hara got the Wildcats on the board at the 13:33 mark of the opening period as she buried a short from the right dot.  Tori Williams and Cammy Clyne picked up the assists on the play.  The Selects would tie it up on the powerplay just under 3 minutes later with a shot from the point.  The Wildcats would regain the lead with 3:27 remaining when Gilly Gervin buried a rebound off a Kailey Thompson shot.  Jori Hansen-Young picked up the other assist on the play.  The period ended 2-1.  Shots on goal were 7-4 in favor of Westman.  Each team picked up a minor penalty.

The Wildcats would come out hard to begin the 2nd period as they seemed to find their legs. Eastman pushed back, however, and hemmed the Wildcats in for a couple of long stretches.  It was the Wildcats though who would get the next goal on the powerplay with 6:02 remaining as Tori Williams drove into the crease, got a shot on net and collected her own rebound to make it 3-1.  Jessica Walker and Aly O'Hara picked up the assists on the play.  The period would end 3-1 for Westman.  Shots were 7-4 in favor of Eastman. Eastman picked up the lone penalty of the period.

The Wildcats came out with good energy and carried the play in 3rd period.  They would stretch the lead to 4-1 as Cammy Clyne buried a wrist shot high to the glove side.  Calista Green picked up the lone assist on the goal. Eastman would score a late goal with 1:05 remaining to make it 4-2 off a deflected shot from the point.  Shots on goal in the 3rd period were 10-7 in favor of Westman. The Wildcats took 2 of 3 minor penalties.

Jenna Marshall picked up the win in net.  The final shots on net were 21-18 in favor of Westman.
