After a scoreless opening period the Wildcats scored the game's opening goal at the 13:56 mark of the 2nd period as Shaylee Scraba scored off a rebound. The Ice would tie it up at the 9:33 mark of the 2nd period as a defensive zone giveaway led to an Ice shot that deflected off a Wildcats defender and changed direction into the open net. The two teams would enter the 3rd period tied at 1-1. The Wilcats would take the lead at the 16:46 mark of the 3rd period on the powerplay as Gilly Gervin buried a rebound at the side of the net. They would add an empty netter by Jensen Shearer with 32 seconds remaining to ice. Jillian Szabo picked up the victory in net for the Wildcats. The Tournament is comprised of eight provincial and regional teams of elite female Aboriginal athletes, ages 15-18 years old. The NAHC also aims to foster culture, unity and pride and has been held since 2002. This will be Rachels 4th year making team Manitoba, looking for their 3rd straight gold medal. Jori Hansen-Young led the way for the Wildcats, scoring two 1st period goals, both off the rush to stake the Wildcats to a 2-0 lead. Charly Lindberg would add a goal in the 2nd period and Shaylee Scraba would score into the empty net late in the 3rd period. Natalie Williamson picked up the victory in net. The Wildcats will now wait to see who their 2nd round opponent will be. But unlike the previous two games they also gave up the 2nd goal of the game. It was a lead that they could not overcome as they would fall 2-1 to the Lightning in a penalty-filled affair in Hartney this afternoon. Jillian Szabo suffered the loss in net.
