Wildcats Win Game 1 Over Winnipeg Ice

The Westman Wildcats defeated the Winnipeg Ice 3-1 on Wednesday night in Hartney.  After a scoreless opening period the Wildcats scored the game's opening goal at the 13:56 mark of the 2nd period as Shaylee Scraba scored off a rebound.  The Ice would tie it up at the 9:33 mark of the 2nd period as a defensive zone giveaway led to an Ice shot that deflected off a Wildcats defender and changed direction into the open net.  The two teams would enter the 3rd period tied at 1-1.

The Wilcats would take the lead at the 16:46 mark of the 3rd period on the powerplay as Gilly Gervin buried a rebound at the side of the net.  They would add an empty netter by Jensen Shearer with 32 seconds remaining to ice.  Jillian Szabo picked up the victory in net for the Wildcats.  Game 2 goes Saturday afternoon at the IcePlex in Winnipeg at 4:15 PM.

Wildcats Fall Again to Swift Current

Two late 3rd period goals sealed the deal today as the Swift Current Wildcats defeated the Westman Wildcats 5-1.  Jillian Szabo suffered the loss in net.  The Wildcats resume their playoff run with Game 1 of the league semi-final vs the Winnipeg Ice this Wednesday evening in Hartney at 7:30 PM.

Wildcats Fall 6-3 to Swift Current in Exhibition Play

The Westman Wildcats hosted the Swift Current Wildcats in Hartney on Saturday night.  The game was scoreless after a very fast, end to end opening period with both teams sharing chances.  Swift Current held a 2-1 lead after two periods and skated to an eventual 6-3 victory.  Jillian Szabo suffered the loss in net.  Both teams square off on Sunday at 11:00 AM in Hartney.

Rachel O'Toole will be a member of Team Manitoba competing at the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships (NAHC) held in Whitehorse, Yukon May 6-14.  The Tournament is comprised of eight provincial and regional teams of elite female Aboriginal athletes, ages 15-18 years old.  The NAHC also aims to foster culture, unity and pride and has been held since 2002. This will be Rachels 4th year making team Manitoba, looking for their 3rd straight gold medal. 


Wildcats Clinch 1st Round Series

After dropping game 3 at home on Sunday the Westman Wildcats had to travel back to Interlake to play their 3rd game in 3 days.  Jori Hansen-Young led the way for the Wildcats, scoring two 1st period goals, both off the rush to stake the Wildcats to a 2-0 lead. Charly Lindberg would add a goal in the 2nd period and Shaylee Scraba would score into the empty net late in the 3rd period.  Natalie Williamson picked up the victory in net. The Wildcats will now wait to see who their 2nd round opponent will be.  Round 2 will begin the week of March 4th after the completion of the Canada Winter Games

Interlake takes Game 3

After outshooting Interlake 11-0 to open the game the Westman Wildcats - for the 3rd consecutive game - gave up the opening goal. But unlike the previous two games they also gave up the 2nd goal of the game.  It was a lead that they could not overcome as they would fall 2-1 to the Lightning in a penalty-filled affair in Hartney this afternoon.  Jillian Szabo suffered the loss in net.  Game 4 will be on Monday at 4:30 PM in Stonewall.

Wildcats Win Game 2

The Wildcats traveled to Warren on Saturday afternoon to face the Interlake Lightning in Game 2 of their quarterfinal series.  Interlake got on the board 23 seconds into the game when a bouncing puck from below the goal line went off a Wildcats defeners shin pad and into the net. The game would remain that way until the Wildcats scored two goals 44 seconds apart late in the 2nd period to take a 2-1 lead.  This is how the game would end.  Natalie Williamson picked up the victory in net.

1st Period
