Opening Ceremonies at MAC's Tournament in Calgary

The Westman Wildcats have gotten off to a great start at the MAC'S Tournament in Calgary.   They defeated Thompson Okanagan Rockets 6 - 1 and then played Melville Prairie Fire 3-1.  Next action for the Wildcats is today at 8:30pm where they will be the feature game against the Calgary Flyers.  There are 15 female teams competing at the Mac's tournament with the top 4 teams advancing to the Semi Finals on December 31st.

EXHIBITION | WED. DEC. 26

Ashleigh Brykaliuk had two goals, including the game-winner in a shootout, while Hanna Bunton and Halli Krzyzaniak also scored to boost Canada to a 4-3 victory over local boys team C2 Pojat in exhibition action that had an arena full of fans cheering in Kirkkonummi, Finland

Week 11 - ending December 16

Karissa Kirkup - Forward - Westman Wildcats

Karissa Kirkup a forward with the Westman Wildcats is the MFMHL Player of the Week. Kirkup led the Wildcats with 7 points (1 goal and 6 assists) during 3 wins last week to help her team move into second place in the MFMHL standings. A grade 12 student from Virden Kirkup is the Wildcats' Captain and currently leads her team in scoring with 46 points in 27 gamesKirkup  was a member of Team Manitoba that won a silver medal in Dawson Creek B.C. at the Hockey Canada U18 National Championships earlier in November.

WILDCATS WITH BACK TO BACK WINS FOR WEEKEND

WILDCATS 6   WINNIPEG ICE 2
 
The Wildcats were at the Notre Dame Arena Sunday, December 16th for a game with the Winnipeg Ice at 11:45am. This was a physical game with 21 penalities handed out, Wildcats 11 and Ice 10. The Shots on Goal were Wildcats 48 Ice 20. The Cats getting many scoring opportunites but the Ice goalie played well in net. Period 1 The Cats got their first goal less than two mintes into the period from Missy Hunt. The Cats got a powerplay goal before the period ended from Karissa Kirkup. Period 2 saw Teagan Pringle get one past the Ice goalie. After 20 minutes of play it was 3-1 for the Cats. Period 3 The Cats would net three more goals. Teagan Pringle would pick up her second of the game. The last two goals came in the last three minutes of the period, Gina Williams with a shot from the blueline and Jossa Danis got one with a feed from Kirkup. The Ice getting one on a powerplay in the period. Amber Tilbury made 18 saves, it was with a quick glove catch denying the Ice on a couple.

WILDCATS WIN STREAK NOW 4 IN A ROW

WILDCATS IMPROVE MFMHL RECORD TO 10-4-1

The Wildcats were in Altona for a MFMHL game with the 2012 Esso Cup Champions Pembina Valley Hawks on Saturday, December 15th. Game time was 6:30. This was the second of a four league game matchup between these teams. The Wildcats and Hawks played  the first league game at the Hartney Community Arena on Friday, November 5th. This game saw the Wildcats outshoot the Hawks 34 to 24, the Hawks won 1-0 a result of a 5 on 3 powerplay in the first period of the game.
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 15TH was a hard fought game. The Wildcats pressuring in the Hawks zone and battling around the net. Period 1 ended 0-0. Period 2 saw the Cats putting one up on the scoreboard, it came from Amanda Coey with the assist going to Teagan Pringle. The Period ended Cats 1-0. Period 3 saw both teams with equal shots on goal. The Hawks @ 1:27 took a timeout, pulled their goalie....the Cats still pressuring entered the Hawks zone with a 2 on 1 to score on the empty net. Wildcats won 2-0.
Kristen Campbell made 35 saves to earn her 6th shutout for the season and in MFMHL back to back shutouts vs. Chiefs and Hawks.

Wildcats @ Home for MFMHL game Wednesday, December 12th 2012

The Wildcats were at the Hartney Community Arena on Wednesday, December 12th for a MFMHL game with the Yellowhead Chiefs. Game time was 8:00pm. There was a large crowd on hand. This was the second of a four league matchup for the teams. 

WILDCATS IMPROVE MFMHL RECORD TO 9-4-1 with league win

WILDCATS 5  YELLOWHEAD CHIEFS 0
This game saw the Cats outshoot the Chiefs 14-3 in the first 20 minutes. Period 1 The Cats got 2 on the scoreboard: the first came from Jaycee Magwood with assists going to Gina Williams and and Kaitlyn Crowe. Three minutes later Jossa Danis with her quick shot put one past the Chiefs goalie assisted by Magwood and Kirkup. Period 2 saw the Cats pressing. The Cats adding three more goals. Three minutes in Kirkup scored. The next came from Brykaliuk with assists going to Dyck and Coey. The third goal from Magwood. The period ended Cats 5 Chiefs 0. Period 3 saw the first whistles for penalities, with each team handed two over the 20 minutes of play.The game ended with the Cats keeping the Chiefs scoreless. Kristen Campbell earned her 5th shutout for the season.

THE WILDCATS PLAY TWO AWAY MFMHL GAMES THIS WEEKEND.
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 15TH IN ALTONA AT 6:30pm AGAINST PEMBINA VALLEY HAWKS. THIS WILL BE THE SECOND LEAGUE MATCHUP FOR THESE TWO TEAMS. 
SUNDAY, DECEMBER 16TH IN WINNIPEG AT THE NOTRE DAME ARENA AT 11:45am AGAINST THE WINNIPEG ICE.
